Hello again, boys & girls... check it out, earlier than last year! Woo hoo

We are looking for 32 pieces and a couple of chess masters. You do not have to know how to play chess to be a piece (it is much appreciated if you are wanting to be a chess master, at least the basic moves, since they are controlling the game.)

This is an unscripted, just-for-fun game. My preference is that every one gets to participate, so don't be expecting the best game of chess ever... just entertaining

This is Cosplay Chess, so you character cosplay will be the deciding factor in who gets to participate. This is not a first-come, first-serve sign-up, so you don't have to worry about submitting your form right away... it is more important that your cosplay is complete, and preferably well-known characters. This is a separate event from the Cosplay Contest, so you will not be judged on the quality of the cosplay, or whether you made it yourself - you just need to be a recognizable character.

To sign-up to be a chess piece, you need to do the following:

Read the rules
Fill out the registration form
Submit the form and photos of your cosplay to chess@kumoricon.org

You must include photos of you in your cosplay, or of your cosplay itself (I can't reiterate this enough, guys... if you don't send pics, you don't get to play). Images of your character will not suffice. Since this is not first-come, first-serve, you have time to wait until your cosplay is complete... there is no penalty for being one of the last ones to register. You are also allowed to submit more than one cosplay (just submit a separate form for each.)

Also... if your "piece" is more than one person (for example, the Warners from last year) please submit one form for each person, but indicate on your form that they are one "piece". Due to space constraints on the board, I will limit the number of such pieces that will be accepted, and no more than 3 people to one "piece".

If you are interested in being a chess master, or want to help out in another way, please let us know by posting here or emailing chess@kumoricon.org.

Sign-ups will be open until August 24th. Players will be notified of their team and position the week before con, and will be required to attend a pre-meeting before the event, which will be on Monday. Please keep in mind.. the timing of the pre-meeting is usually during hotel checkout, so factor that in to your plans.

Yeah the lengthy time is nice, gives me plenty of time to decide between Victoria Seras and Haruhi Fujioka as a final costume. Either way I'm gonna enter =D

Do you know about the time Chess usually is? I know it's been on Day 3, but just trying to plan a photoshoot around it and seeing if we can do it beforehand, or should wait til afterword. Any info would help, thanks.

I don't know if I'm gonna do Chess this year. I feel like I kinda need a break, and if I go to Kcon at all, I'll be at my Artist Alley table most of the time.

Maybe I should sign up as an alturnate, or substitute chess master?

Yeah signing up as an alternate for either would be great. There are always last minute drops so it's great to have experienced alternates.

Keeping in mind that I'm looking at the draft schedule not the final one according to that players need to be at the Pre-Meet at 10:30 am Monday.

The game is Noon to 2:20pm

No, you won't have to wait that long. Finalizing the con schedule has take priority, sorry about that. I will be sending out confirmation emails this week, and will post here when I have done so.

I sooooo can't wait for this! I'm gonna be Moxxi and (hopefully) this will be my fifth year playing in cosplay chess. I really hope there's some evil characters out there so we can FINALLY have our Good vs. Evil match!!!!

Also, I was really hoping that the match wouldn't be on Monday again, since its always during the chaos that is hotel check out, and forcing people to chose weather they attend the match, or check out of their rooms on time. -.- Any idea as to if we're gonna be in the ballroom this year instead of a tiny room?

Okay, I have sent replies to all the emails I have received. If you have not received a reply from me, I did not get your sign-up. But, no worries... you still have time to submit. Please remember, I need pics of your cosplays, in addition to your form.

To day, I have about 23 entries, so we definitely need more people. (And c'mon, guys... where is your inner villian... most the of the entries are for good

)

You have until next week, so there is still plenty of time to get your forms in.

@jamiche: if you need more "bad" guys, i am willing to switch some of my "good" guys too! also! my bf wants to submit a form as well, but part of his costume JUST arrived! do you think i can give you pictures of the costume that i have right now in his form, and once the whole thing gets here, send you the rest of the pics? or do you want me to wait? HIS is a good guy/villian. so either works!

If the the pieces are there, then send them in (it's way better than a pic of what you are buying). As long as the coplay is complete Monday morning, it's fine.

I’m really debating sending in a form for this cosplay chess as Fai and Kurogane. I mean I watched it last year and I’m not sure how I feel about the unscripted chess compared to the scripted ones. To me when they are scripted they run a lot smoother and there isn’t so many ‘umm ahh I don’t know where to place my pieces’ moments. It got boring at points last year as we waited for the masters to figure out where to go.

I’ve got a couple more days to think about it. Anyways.

I promise to be punctual and quick in the beginning of the game. Cannot guarantee instant moves toward the middle and end...but I guess my moves will take at most 15-30 seconds.

Just make sure to have some playful banter during the thinking. It makes it much more fun to wait if you have something to listen too rather then just silence.

relax a little, there generally isn't an instant turn around on these things, the peoples have lives and jobs that come before this. Give it a few days before worrying. As long as you let them know to pm you instead of emailing, that should work.

I just sent all three application forms ._. I feel so sorry for myself because I rush sewed everything on the account of a nasty Shingle infection, which caused my arms to be worthless and in pain.

I got your email... will try and remember to change it in any emails, but I tend to post most stuff here so you won't miss out.

Sign-ups are closed. I have sent confirmation emails to all entries I received, so if you didn't get one, I didn't get your form. (There may have been a couple of mail-ins, but I still need to check the mail, so....)

Plan is to announce teams this weekend... but I'm going to ask for your patience, please. Our last general meeting is this Saturday, and still have a bunch of stuff to do, but will get the team list up as soon as I can (which of course means it will most likely be up late, late Sunday night

)

Thanks for all the entries, guys... we have a nice mix to choose from, so it's going to be a challenge.
