Author Topic: Kingdom Hearts Props - Words of Encouragement? (Read 6503 times)

So, the plan is (if time allows), I would like to make a Kingdom Key and Larxene's kunais, but I am scared out of my mind! D8 I want to make them to cut down on the cost for shipping from buying off eBay and such (plus they can be a bit spendy too sometimes), and so I'm not waiting around hoping that they'll arrive in time for con. I just never make props .u.; so it's like new and scary.

Keyblade:
My sis and I need two CON FRIENDLY Keyblades (one for Roxas & one for Sora). We technically have two Kingdom Keys, but hers is made from metal, and in 2009, the staff was super iffy about letting us walk around with it, despite the fact they were fine with it and said nothing back in '08. So last year, we didn't even take it so we wouldn't have to deal with it, but my sis kept taking mine D8
We want to make the Keyblade out of wood, and we're going to be using mine as a model, plus looking at my Roxas figurine's Keyblade for help. I've got the basic idea (wooden rod and flat pieces to connect to the rod), but what would you suggest would be the best way to connect the pieces? o3oPurchasing one from luvan1me n.n

So I want to make these out of sculpy. My problem is that I never took ceramics in high school, so I suck at clay working. I bought a bag of typical clay working tools, but it's like "....wtf is this for?" My other problem is that when I've worked with clay in the past (FIMO, to be exact), it didn't seem that soft while I was working with it...any suggestions for that?

I just need words of encouragement guys D8

if there were just one I would say make it out of sculpy but since there is eight I would say use the sculpy to make a mold and cast them out of resin so they all look the same. I tried them your way and they looked bad (maybe it was because I got impatient XD)

Making a mold and casting them may be a little difficult (mainly the mold part, I have never done it) but I think they would look better in the end.

For the Keydom Key, it depends what you're using to make the blade and handles. Most use wood for that as well, so just wood glue would do.

As for the Kunai, I wouldn't do a mold since you don't know what you're doing. Molds aren't easy. You have to make the thing and then make a cast, etc.....
Where do you live? If you got all the clay and such, I'd be very willing to help! I would with clay all the time and know all the tricks.

Wood is the safe route for con safe weapons lol. They'll be lighter then metal .. XD

well i bought it for $75 i believe but i'm willing to fix it up repaint it and re-sell it to you for $70, it's all wood, except the chain which is metal. i will even get the mickey mouse chain redone in metal too

My very first prop that I've made is Riku's Way of the Dawn. I used insulating foam and created a stencil from a graphic on google. I took the digital image to my local office max and they printed out a life size copy. I will post pic later. I just got done sealing it with modpodge and am still painting it. I think that the insulating foam is dense enough that you don't have to worry about breakage. I was originally going to reinforce the hilt with a dowel but realized that I won't need it.

I just started painting it. I also happen to have a second one drawn out on foam. would anyone who lives in the Portland area like to take it off my hands? It was my back-up in case I messed the first one up.

Just so you know it's not cut or carved.

you could make a silicone mold around a kunai then a plaster mold around that, let it dry and the remove the kunai, grease the silicone that is still in the plaster mold and then fill it with clay, plaster, sugar, , or carve them from foam and spray paint them. GOOD LUCK! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

In the forums, attached files can only be about 128KB. I can make a nice paragraph but once you put in a pic the file becomes too large to put on the forum.

I also tried google documents but it changed the formatting of the document so bad that it was unreadable. I will try to figure something out today.

Hummm...it loads for me on other computers...not sure what is going on.

I really like the keyblade, it looks really good. My only criticism would be that the edges are too square and could stand to be more rounded but great job all the same.

that is a very good tutorial! and i'm sure it will help a lot of us (especially since i'm working on finding on how to make aqua's brightcrest with different material x.x) so this is going to help a lot on what i should use

just wondering. for the print out of the life size picture, how much bigger did you blow it up? did you do like 250%? or what was the percentage. for example: what was the scale ratio that you used (computer image to real life) inches would probably work.

I knew that we wanted the sword to be a bit short since my sister is only about 5'4" so I measured that she needed a sword about 3' long and we printed it out porportionally.
