Borders books closing all stores and liquidating
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:58:58 pm »
Its been in the news that they were bankrupt, and closing some stores and looking to be bought, but biggest bidders were the liquidators.

I am sad about this, as their coupons and such have saved me a lot, and a weekend trip to borders is one of me and my hunnys things to do.

I hope all the people being laid off find jobs soon.

Are you serious?  Borders is freakin' awesome!  This makes me sad.  Most of my manga collection and CD collection comes from there.

They wanted to be bought but didn't get very many offers, they wanted to pick a company to auction them off (to be bought by another company) but the creditors and lenders etc, felt more money would be made from a liquidation, and they didn't trust the auction company not to just liquidate them anyway.

But yeah I get most of my manga there.

As much as I love Borders, and have many good memories there, as much as I hate to say it, they had this coming.

Regarding all books (not just manga), their prices were pretty high, and with so many people going "digital", it was hard for them to keep up.

Borders, you will be missed :[

I prefer Borders over Barnes & Noble by a LONG shot. Barnes & Noble just has this...air about it that makes it seem so much more stuck up than Borders. I dunno, maybe that's just me. That and B&N's manga section is WEAK. I will miss you Borders!

are you sure the whole company or only a couple of stores are closing? Cause I just got a coupan in my email for the olympia story just a few days ago. :{

i also prefer Borders to B&N. I only have one thing fun B&N and 8 mangas of my own from Borders, plus my little sister has some.

No problem,

I just got an official e-mail from borders about the closing to borders plus members, a thank you for shopping, that they tried to keep open but were unable to, and  to take advantage of the sales.
I would copy but it wont let me, and its long, I am sure it will be online latter or some of you might get it
Liquidation starts Friday,
Borders rewards plus membership lasts until 8-5-11
Borders bucks are good until 7-31-11

Did see something about some company wanting to save some of the stores, but the liquidation is set, maybe they mean reopening new bookstores in the borders locations I duno

I rather Borders than B&N but it seems I can only get some manga locally from B&N that they don't stock on the shelves at Borders in Olympia. It's kind of a depressing predicament and leaves me to getting any manga I do buy from amazon.com or conventions.  :-\

R.I.P.
What does man value more than life, yet fear more than death and mortal strife? What the poor have the rich require, and what contented men desire. What the mizer spends and the spendthrift saves, and all men carry to there graves.
