AMV Editors' Dinner: Red Lion "Restaurant at the Quay"
« on: August 14, 2011, 02:29:51 pm »
OK - I got a chance to compare the Hilton vs the Red Lion, and for the stuff that needs to be worked out, the Red Lion (Vancouver, WA) won hands down.
So we will meet at an alcove I reserved at the Red Lion's "Restaurant at the Quay." It is to the right and up a few low steps as you enter the restaurant.

We will meet from 8pm to a little past 10pm.

They have a happy hour menu of munchies which they will extend to our evening event, but at regular prices.
Here's an unofficial sample list:
Walla-walla onion rings, parmesian crusted calimari,
side salads, lettuce wedges, fried shrimp, buffalo wings
hummus w/ flat bread, grilled artichokes, steamed clams
small pizzas, burgundy mushrooms, 1/4lb burgers,
small prime ridge sandwiches

Regular dinner and dessert fare are also available.

SEE YOU THERE!!!

Me (and my girlfriend) will almost certainly be in attendance! :)

And just for my information-- does "extend to our evening event, but at regular prices" mean they'll allow us to order things from a second menu but at higher, dinner prices or that the things on the happy hour menu will be at reduced price? It doesn't effect my attendance or anything... It just seems like an embarrassing question to actually ask the waiter xD

Day: It's the Friday before the con: 2-Sep-11.

Who is welcome:
a) Anyone who is an AMV editor who has submitted something to any Kumoricon AMV contest, and
b) a parent, guardian, spouse, or 'major relation' / significant other to anyone in (a) above.

This event begins and ends before the official start and end of the Kumoricon convention. It is NOT affiliated with Kumoricon or its parent company Altonimbus. You do *not* have to be a Kumoricon member to attend this gathering.

The "Happy Hour" prices for the munchies mentioned above are in the $3 - $5 range, and they want 'happy hour' participants to buy at least one bar drink. Happy Hour ends at 7pm, so the munchies will probably be a couple more bux per plate.
Happy-hour pricing for these offerings will have elapsed before our gathering begins.

Our group won't be subject to the one-drink rule, because we will be paying a little more for the munchies.
They are still much less expensive than dinner entrees.

But in addition, the regular dinner menu items are available to order or to split, and dessert items are also available.
Hey, a slice of cake, coffee & (if you are 'legal') a nice cognac could be a great night-cap during this event.

The manager will send me a list of the available items and their "non-happy-hour" prices.
Prices should also be available at the venue itself.

I'll post further info here later when I get it...

Awesome! That's exactly what I was asking about :)

:( Too bad I've got 8 more months b4 I can buy alcohol. But I'm especially glad we are excluded from the one-drink rule in that case!

My Boy friend, Cannonaire, and I will definitely be there. We each have an AMV in the contest this year. Mine is in "Intensity" and his is in "Retro".
Have YOU heard the good news of Jenova?

(Panting for breath...)

JUST ABOUT got it ALL DONE:

All 6 category intros DONE
All 6 category review clips DONE
AMV Iron chef packets, 4 + 1 back-up DONE

Play-tested 1st draft of contest opener last night after losing about 1/3 of my cut-scenes and 1/2 of a 'supposedly' mirrored iOmega storage drive. I have about 4 or 5 minor tweaks to do tonight, then cross my fingers, compress and that should be DONE. I cannot do these as well as the editors in the contest, but I hope people have a little fun on the way.

Music by Sabaton, most footage is from two fairly recent (2009) OVAs:
- Space Battleship Yamato Revival
- Macross Frontier: Itsuwari no Uta Hime

I have room for one or maybe two more AMVs in the Pre-show,
and then I have to select the ORDER of the playlist for the Pre-show and the show.

ALMOST THERE!!!

AND Watch for a SURPRISE tomorrow!!!

Thanks - I needed the the boost!

Premiere was flaking out on outputs - I was getting black frames (dropouts?) on previously rendered clips. That's right - it looks OK in the Premiere 'Monitor', but in the output I got a patch of like 34 black frames in the middle of the scene.

Overcame it by outputting the project in 20sec blocks (600 frames each at 30fps.)
Then output the audio of the entire project as .wav.
Check and tweak A/V timing in each 600-frame block, also verify that the graphics came through.

Re-render local zones whereever graphics got effed-up, and overlay those corrected tracks in a topmost video layer over-riding the messed up areas.

Render on 600-frame chunk at a time.
Use 'Append' in VirtualDub to string them together, THEN add the audio .wav in VirtualDub.

Compress in a slightly old-school XVID codec direct from Virtual dub.

Play tested it at 1:17AM today.

Not TOTALLY perfect, but GOOD ENOUGH. (Thud.)

WE ARE DONE AND
WE ARE READY!

That was an amazing and fun gathering, Guy!  (...up until the live band kicked in, that is. ^_^)  Thank you and Andrea for being such passionate and engaging hosts.  Meeting some of the other editors and seeing their works was a kick!  I'm glad I went.

Hey - SEE YOU at "The Quay" next year!

Since we'll be at the same hotels, I think that that restaurant was the best in terms of the eats they offered ( compared to the Hilton ) and the venue was just great. This time, though, let's consider 7pm to 9pm so we can be just winding down before the live band starts.

Whadda'y'all think?

I know chris would be in.  It would depend on if I am staff again next year and what position I have for me.
