Cosplayers for Feature Film
« on: June 01, 2012, 07:52:16 pm »
Hello, my name is Chris Wilson and I'm a film director in the Portland and Vancouver area. We're gearing up to shoot a feature film called 'Bad Signs' in September and are looking for a ton of people in costumes for several key scenes. The film is a comedy about two warring groups of advertising sign holders. One of those groups are always in costume (like the Liberty Tax guys). We have scenes where we're hoping to have 30-50 people in costumes and cosplayers came to mind! We'd be looking for people in costumes that aren't trademarked, and the bigger and bulkier the better. We have a few celebrities on board and it's going to be a really fun film!

If you're interested, you can email me at chris_rw@hotmail.com. Thanks everyone, you guys are awesome!

Here's a spec trailer we did early in development to give people an idea of what the movie would somewhat be like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5T9WzHBOGY

I honestly think that you would have a hard time finding a huge group of cosplayers who were NOT cosing copyrighted characters. I would be willing to bet that over half of the cosplayers you would find who were not cossing OC's are copyrighted by someone. Have you tried Portland's Alter-ego's society?

They are all about creating your own character. They have some fantastic costumers among them as well. That would be my recommendation.

This does sound quite interesting, but unfortunately most of my costumes come from anime or Star Wars. The only ones that are somewhat "original" are a pirate outfit and two steampunk outfits that are not even close to being finished, and probably wont be any time soon as other costumes have been taking priority.
Sorry. :(

Good luck with your search.

Looks like fun. Alterego is a good suggestion. You might also try some of the fetish night events and furry groups to find people who already have unique costumes unrelated to copyrighted characters.

That looks like fun.
Well I've only got one costume this year, I'm a rainbow Loli.
White satin corset/skirt, commissioned rainbow horizontal layered tutu, rainbow shoes, rainbow custom wig, and white lace shrug/fingerless gloves/parasol/tights.
Can't find any photo's of anyone doing anything like it.
Is that original enough?

As a recently employed sign waver for Tigard's BedCo, this is right up my alley!

I don't get to wear a costume, but that doesn't mean I don't have a locker full of cosplays.

I noticed that the requirement is no trademarked costumes (Captain America, etc.), but wouldn't that include most anime since it features trademarked characters? (any pokemon, dragonball z, etc.)

That's why I have a non-licensed cosplay on standby for things like this.

I just hope there are still openings.

Sorry, I haven't been checking in on this thread for awhile! For those who are interested and haven't contacted me, shoot me an email at chris_rw@hotmail.com and I'll put you in our list for the movie.

We've been shooting pieces of the film for the past few weeks, including scenes with our very eccentric and oddball cast. Daniel Baldwin (one of the Baldwin brothers), Adrienne King (Friday the 13th), Tonya Harding, Ron Jeremy and more. Been a lot of fun and we've got some fantastic stuff!

To clear up the trademarked issue: We can't show any trademarked characters, be it from the US stuff or Japanese characters. If it was created by a different company, we can't show it (showing that character would require us to buy the rights to it, which can cost 100's of thousands of dollars). Any generic or self made costume is great though. The bigger, bulkier and weirder the better!

Thanks guys! Will be sending out more information to everyone via email here in the next day or so!
