2012 Cosplay Chess: Team Assignments

As to no longer keep you suspense, here are the team assignments:

The teams this year...



... are not themed.  We were so close to Good vs. Evil (.... again. )  And since we've done Battle of the Sexes to death, we switched it up a bit this year.  We picked out what we thought were the most awesome of the awesome cosplays (which is harder than you think.. there were a lot of really good entries), and then reverted to grade school and took turns picking.  No rhyme or reason to them, just what amused us.

If you submitted and don't see your name here, you are on the alternate list.  If one of the assigned pieces is unable to participate, you may be chosen to replace them.  If you had submitted as a special attack, if your person is on the list, then you've been accepted, too.

As a reminder, all players must attend the mandatory pre-meeting at 10:00am Monday morning unless you have made prior arrangements with me.  If you are not there by 10:15, you will be replaced on the board. If you have special attacks, they must be present as well.  

Remember, if your cosplay is not complete, you may be replaced.

If you are not on the list, and would like to help out by being a stage ninja/special attack during the game, then come to the pre-meet and we can chat.  There are no guarantees that you will be participating.  Due to some of the issues we had last year, I will more strict on who/how many extras will be allowed.

I will be emailing notifications out tomorrow.. most likely tomorrow night.  If you have any questions, or decide you no longer wish/can participate, please let me know via e-mail or PM, or you can talk to me at con (someone is bound to know where I am).

Also (totally promoting this >>), if this is your first time being in chess, I'd suggest going to the Improv Fighting panel Saturday, 7:30 pm, Panel room 3. I will be teaching a bunch of good tips that will be helpful, trust me~!

The white team chess master is one of my closest friends in real life, WOOT!  I HAVE to call her up to congratulate her now (because she might not know otherwise... her computer is having problems).  But seriously, con staff; you have made an excellent choice by picking her for chessmaster.  She is a LITERAL GENIUS.  I'm not just being gushy, she really does have an IQ that soars above the minimum for what is considered "genius."  White team will SO dominate this year  

Oh, and one other thing... I MADE WHITE TEAM PAWN I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!

(I tend to ignore half the pieces. I've been practicing with a few friends, though, and now I'm using all of them.) Although, thanks for calling me to inform me. (On that note, my computer's working better, now, and (obviously) didn't blue-screen after five minutes on the forum.)

Also, I was wondering if we could mark the playing pieces with colored tape to signify characters that want to battle- ESPECIALLY if they have a script. Because those battles are always amazing.

Well since the game is completely improv, I can't guarantee anything(especially if the pawn placement makes it impossible for them to battle), but one thing I can guarantee is talking over with the pieces to make sure special attacks get used and battles don't end up being too short or too long. After all, one of the complaints I have for most of the fights is it usually ends when whoever the "winning" piece is gets the first hit, so if we can have a more spectacular battle I'm all for it.

On that note, any black chess pieces who have personal vendettas against certain white team members let me know and I'll try to do what I can. I want all my little meat shields, er I mean loyal soldiers, to at least get an attempt at their battle wish fulfilled, so either PM me, post here, or just come up to me during the pre-meeting and we'll see what we can do.

Also to the white chess master, I'm glad to see you've been working on using all the pieces. I've seen some chess masters who put winning over the spirit of the game, and it just becomes no fun that way. After all, Cosplay Chess is a show first and a game second, because if they were both first it'd be a game show and I don't think Jamiche has any prize money to give away
