Kumori Ball- Looking for Hosts!
« on: April 16, 2013, 06:59:38 pm »
Hello all ye Kconers! I am the cohost of the ballroom dance lessons from 2012. We are very much hoping to have the Kumoriball again this year. Like last year we had a group of hosts who would help by asking wall flowers to dance. We re looking for volunteers to help us do this again! If you would like to help out or just have some questions feel free to post to message me for further info! But until then, here's a Q and A

Q) What does being a host entail?
A) Knowing something about leading (or a good follow) and getting others to dance.

Q) But what if I only kinda know how to dance?
A) We are actually thinking about running a workshop during the summer in Portland or the area, to help brush up on some dance moves and styles!  Yes this basically means a free dance lesson.

Q) Is there something I have to do before hand if I want to be a host?
A) Contact me! Kokotankuu! You can try the Dread Pirate but he's usually at work.

Q) I know how to dance already, is this helpful?
A) You don't know how much! Yes!! It's extremely helpful. We are only a handful of people running this thing right now, we will love all the help we can get. The Kumoriball is like herding cats.

Q) What if I know absolutely nothing about ballroom dance? Can I still be a host?
A) At this time, we are really looking for people we don't have to teach from the ground up in only a few weeks. If you're interested in dancing though, come to the panel events during kcon and talk to us then.

Q) I like dancing!!
A) Well that's not really a question....but good for you! ^^b

Please post any other questions you might have!

I'm usually a wallflower myself, so I would love to help out too if you don't mind!
I know some basic ballroom dances, but I wouldn't mind coming to the workshops either to learn more.
Do you have to be in a specific cosplay? My sister and I were going to do Korra and Asami.

That sounds wonderful both of you!! Tsundere! Welcome back to the hosts! We will be coming up with more details later. Are you both in the Portland area? Or in Oregon? lol The Dread Pirate in I are in Klamath Falls at the moment. Things of course are up in the air.

Teddy, I've Been Toph and Princess Merida in the past. Not sure if I'll have the time to come up with something new this year.  But if you with to host and cosplay feel free! we actually really like it. I love saying I've danced with specific characters lol.

I haven't ballroom danced since I was a child haha but last year I attended kumoriball, and was just dancing around with my husband and friends and just having a blast. I really don't like having to conform to the dancing to be honest. Wish I could be a silly host and just help people dance, even if they don't know how. That's what I ended up doing to all of my friends in there! I didn't want them to leave XD

Thanks! :D I'm really excited! I'm about two hours from Portland, but I live in Eugene. I can't remember how far Eugene is from Klamath Falls though. But to Teddy, last year I was a host and in cosplay as Prussia from Hetalia. I won't be him for the ball this year, however I will still cosplay and be a host. c:

ballet, tap, some jazz, swing, jitterbug/boogie woogie (50's type of dancing), some tango and salsa, some baile folklorico (hispanic dance), a bit of waltz, and I was learning square dancing 7 years ago, but I totally forgot lol

I mean I can mimic any type of dance, just let me see you dance, and I can do my best to copy ;)

Dances I know: Waltz, Viennese Waltz (kinda), Tango, Swing, Jitterbug (or some variation of it), some salsa, West Coast Swing, Country Swing, Foxtrot, Polka (Love Polkas), some square dances. What I think we'll be teaching at con: Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese and Tango (subject to change.)

I know the Waltz and a little bit of Salsa. I want to learn 50's and 70's swing.
I think it would be fun to do a mini swing dance/free style ballroom competition in the middle of the dance.

yeah swing and jitterbug and all the 20-80's kinda dancing are quite fun and not that hard to dance, BUT since I'm out of shape... I can't exactly do dips or throw people around XD so I kinda have to stay out of those moves when it comes to dancing.

AHHH the foxtrot lol man I need to learn that x.x also never heard of viennese o3o sounds interesting

Teddy that's kinda what the meet up will be for lol Also Viennese Waltz is also called the Disney waltz, it's the Disney princess, lets dance together sweeping around the room in big ball gowns. But in truth it's a lot faster and harder to pick up O.o

Hey there! So I'm interested in being a host this year; I know a few ballroom dances, and have been wanting to learn a few more, but I would love to be a host. I attended last year and had a great experience at the ball, and I want to give others a good experience too. I'm willing to learn more dances than what I know, and I can learn them on my own time and not just the dance practices and such. c:

Hi! I'm actually very interested in being a host for this year at the ball. I know alittle here and there about ballroom dancing. I've never had the chance to go to the dances yet. They're usually packed before I get the chance. I'm very friendly and love talking to new people. :3 Breaking people out of their shell and loosening them up is what I enjoy to do. :D I hope I can assist you guys in the dance if it happens. X3 I'd probably go as either Reno or Dave.

We're trying to get together a meet up of some kind to talk to the host and teach them some brush up dances before con.  It just gives me an easier way to contact everyone and let them know what's going on.

Do you still need hosts? And would I need to show up early at all? I'm going to be quite busy this year as a Panels staffer, but I've been learning ballroom dance for the last year and I'd love to help out.

I'm a pretty solid follow on slow waltz, Viennese waltz, foxtrot, nightclub two-step, hustle, and tango, and I know the basics of east- and west-coast swing. I can only really lead waltz and two-step, though...

If you're still looking for hosts, I offer my services as well.
I have 9 years of ballet experience and can pick up dances fairly easily. I also know waltz, and basic latin.
I will likely be dressed as Kate Bishop from the Hawkeye Comics.
BUT since I live in Eastern Washington I won't be able to meet up before con, except on Day 0.

I think it would be fun to host as either Ice King or Winnie. I know basic ballroom and when I'm in character, I'm pretty good at being out there.

Though, right now I don't know if I could. I have a damaged leg that I might not be able to dance at all by the time Kumo comes...

I think right now, I will say no, and when the time comes, I'll decide if I can attend or not.
