Costume suggestions for cold weather
« on: July 13, 2016, 10:41:49 pm »
We all know how bad the weather gets in late October here and the early September costumes just don't work any more. Hauling the old standby out of the closet isn't always an option when the con falls in a different time of year. While it may be just under two months, it's a world away, prone to storms and chill.

So what should we do to make this better for cosplayers? I have to pull out older outfits that need to be updated, or make a new one, so we need some tips about doing so. Also how to keep them dry, and how to set makeup to hold up in the rain.

Well if you are talking about modding cosplays you already have made, maybe one of those characters has a winter outfit? With really warm cosplays it really depends on the person wearing it.  Either way you would need to make sure whatever cosplay you are wearing is warm, along with it breathing well. I was thinking you could line the inside  of a cosplay with a fabric that insulates, then remove it for the warmer months.

On a side note though if a character does not have a winter outfit you could make your own.

However i'm not sure how exactly to make a characters outfit waterproof without a lot of work. As for makeup i'd look into how they did it on movies where the characters where in the rain a lot. Or maybe watch some of that tv series face off. (that costuming tv show on SYFY)

I'm doing a Star Wars cosplay at least one of the days, and I'm thinking of bringing a Jedi robe to pull on when I can't stand the cold anymore...LOL

If you still want to cosplay the more fair-weathered characters, flesh tone tights and long sleeve shirts are probably going to be useful. Also, I'm sure those weird hand warmer things won't be a bad idea.

Honestly I welcome the October date.

The September warmth always caused my makeup to drip off(into my eyes)

If you are concerned about the cold is depends on what cosplay you are doing, if your cosplay covers your arms and legs then by all means you can wear things underneath and nobody would notice.

as for cosplay makeup I need advice on keeping it on since during the Kumo dances the heat causes it to melt off my face indiana Jones style
