Welcome! By "what all there is to do" do you mean as in help out for the convention? Or just chat in the forums? Please give us some more information about your interests, especially if you want to help out with the convention.

sure, my grandma is Japanese so I grow up with that culture in my life. I really like watching anime I own quite a few shows and movies. I havent really done any fourms before so I guess I right now want to get the hang of chating and maybe get more involved with clubs or meetings of some kind later... I dont even know if that makes sense ha ha

I own about 300 DVD's and a lot of games for my ps2 and xbox. I really enjoy RPG's and have never done any in real life. I love music and I listen to   a lot of pop and Jpop. well I dont know what else to say. lol I hope that helps.

Forums are simple... If you don't believe that you currently have gotten the hang of it yet, you're sorely mistaken.

As for helping out the convention, just go to any of the meetings that are coming up and offer your services to the convention. There you'll find out more information about the different departments of the convention staff.

Welcome.

Hello there! When I went to my first convention and was completly overwhelmed, but I had soooo much fun! You see all kinds of people dressed up as all their favorite characters (cosplay), you can go to all kinds of workshops and talks where people who make anime and manga will talk about what they do, you get to watch Anime Music Videos (if you don't know what they are - also called AVM- they are fun!), and there is the Dealer's Room with so much stuff to buy you won't know where to start. And that's just the start.
Most of the time it is a very open culture, accepting of all ages and abilities. So welcome to the forum. Hope you like what you see, and hope you attend the con!!!

Some people store buy thier costumes or commision them from people who make them as a hobby or proffession. Others prefer to make their own costumes. Either way, it helps if you start now. Give yourself plenty of time to make the costumes before the con comes around and your rushing to finish them last minute.

Hi prettymoi, if you can get down to salem they have L'anime partys every 2 months or so, pretty muh just a bunch of people hanging out, watching anime and playing computer and console games. That's a good way to get to know some people that will be going to and working at Kumoricon. The next one is next month on the 13th at chemekata college. It'd be nice to see you there.
And now I'm a catgirl?

You'll find that there are lots of people that cosplay certain popular games / manga/ anime (Naruto, Final Fantasy), and other people cosplay characters hardly anyone has ever heard of. Some people go really indepth and sew their own costumes from scratch (usually required if you are entering a cosplay contest) and other (like me) buy a lot of it second hand and alter it.

Personally, I like to dress as someone I am interested in, along with someone I think I kinda look like. It's hard to find a character that fits both bills.

Hi; my name is Jay. I'm a 42 year old male. Just got started here today. Found out about the convention from Beckett's Anime and Manga magazine I picked up at the local Ray's market in Creswell, where I live.

I am still reletively a newb. Have much anime yet to see. Netflix only goes so fast. But is faster than having to buy each disc.

I've been a member of the Anime News Network forums since March. And I actually haven't been this into anime until sometime last year. I have been aware of Japanese cartoons, before they were called anime over here, can you say Speed Racer on KPTV 12? Saw it while wating to be taped for a Ramblin' Rod show.

I hope to be able to make it up there for the convention. I would really like to do something like that. Now if I can just find a housesitter.

Have Fun

Jay

P.S. Cool, wasn't sure if I got my avatar right. And isn't he a handsome devil. Looks more like my grandfather than me. But My graying hair is getting there. Also I don't have glasses, let alone cybernetic implants.
Have Fun

I look much more like Battou than Pops Racer. Even if I grew my moustache back. I am not going to dye my hair! So it's gray, I am [/i]living with it.

Yeah, this forum is taking a bit of a learning curve. Guess it's a different dialect than the ANN's. But then I haven't really done forums much period. Guess I am somewhat of a neo-luddite, I don't have a computer at home, or own a cellphone, or digital camera. I kind of want a computer back.

Except When You...

Well, I am not so new that I haven't seen the fur fly over subs vs. dubs.  :D

I try to watch subs. I am watching Fruits Basket now, and I have to use the dubs, there is just too much going on for me to be able to read that fast, and still see the anime. But then I accidently made the DVD play english subs, while in dub mode, and man the two did not go together! So I am guessing that the subs were written in Japan, and the dub script was written here.

Can't read, or write kana, but am starting to be able to listen to some. Hope to continue improving.

By the by, you can call me by my name. It's Jay.
Have Fun

I LOVE Fruits Basket, that anime is so good, I am watching it now for like the third time, I really need to get the boxset and stop watching it on my computer.  I perfer the sub though, it is just so intense and beautifully done <3 I thought the dub was good but still prefer the other

Oh and welcome ^^
