My family opens presents on Christmas Eve and I've hardly done any shopping, so I'm probably going to be out shopping most of the evening. Sorry, I'll be there next time.

If we started meeting weekly, I'd be there even more often, hint hint! :P

Oh we had lots of people show up.  we went to BK for snacks, then alots of nerd talk and every one else rolled up D&D PC and looked through boxes of minis while I kept checking my windows wall paper.

I plan on something most every Saturday night.  Every one at the last meeting wanted to play a RPG on the alternate weeks

I'd be open to any RPG, the one the kids wanted to play was D&D but I might incorperat some D20 BESM or D&D Oriental Adventures to add some anime elements.  I have not played Buffy or serenity I may have the books on PDF (I have 40 giggle bytes of rpg PDF files (I just checked and I have the Buffy book by EDEN ) or there is a D&D Modern setting I have that is a clone of Buffy.

Actually rather then play the Buffy or Firefly RPG cant I just hang out with Allison Hanigan and Jewel Sate and date them both in character.

I think D&D is vastly overrated. Not to say I dislike D20. But ironically, I think D20 is better suited to settings other than medieval fantasy.

If you want anime elements, I strongly encourage D20 BESM rather than Oriental Adventures... largely because I've read over and approve of D20 BESM.

I'd be happy to try out an RPG at club, as long as it's anime-related and not in the D&D setting. I have simply played more D&D than I really care to in the past few years. :P

As for Joss Whedon, I think he is awesome, but if we want to create an anime club we'd probably better watch the non-anime outside of "advertised" club meetings (after meetings, perhaps).

It may sort of be that one week is anime the other is something else nerdy.  So something going on every week since half the time we have just had nerd talk or played games

As I said I’m not stuck on any one system although for cost effectiveness If I’m running a game I’ll try to do something D20 as I have a lot of stuff for it, I’m familiar with it and I can easily find more resources.  I’m also kind of tired of the normal fantasy D&D (Even is HS we used 0 ED D&D to play the old west and something like the Road Warrior and made up a space game.)  Last year I started a D20 Modern game set in 1937 but two of the players had to go and get jobs and the game ended right after the battle with Die Flagger Wyrms Flyng Circus and before they got out of New York and met Tammy Tessla or had the Airship battle against the Graf Wyvern and the Nazi Luft Komandos.

The main reason it started as D&D is the kids wanted to learn that one and I have the books all ready in hand (if we played old 1ed D&D I could loan every one a PHB).   I have a about 20 BESM files and was just looking at BESM D20 and rolled up a NPC and we could convert the one or two PC that are all ready rolled up.  So far nothing is set in stone other than one person rolled up a druid (because she wanted to have magic and a cute animal companion) and another may wants to play a fairy.  I'm leaning toured an adventure like when Inyuahsa and his friends are wandering around the woods doing stuff and D20 BESM does not have a lot of resources for medieval or outdoors adventure.  Oh what if it turns into a medieval Magical Girl campaign

And then of course we could get no farther then look though all my stuff and watching Anime.  Anyways keep sending input RadIEn.   And if you wanted to run the game then I could play (No play since K con all my groups floped) and I'll play a magical Lizard Girl martial artist

Some of my sister's friends from out of town are arriving this evening and staying for a few days, so I may or may not be there.  We'll see what happens tonight. If we end up exchanging gifts, I may be homebound again.

BESM D20 doesn't have a lot of medieval fantasy adventuring provisions, you say? Would it be possible to start with BESM D20 and work in whatever you want from D&D? Or the other way around?

I dunno, I just really like to get away from the rigid setup D&D always starts with. Rogues disarm traps and backstab people, fighters hit things in the face, elves find hidden doors, etc. etc.  Plus all the D&D GMs I've ever had have had us spend 60% of our time in a slimy cave or smelly dungeon. I know that's optional, but it always seems to happen, and I really wonder why my hero shouldn't have better things to do with his/her time.

I do have a medieval anime character or two that I could play. But I do hope we have access to BESM D20 skills and classes. I really liked a lot of what I saw, and the one time I got to play regular BESM was a lot of fun. ^^

Anime Friday at my place
« Reply #213 on: December 30, 2006, 12:19:25 pm »
Hi all,

I just discovered this thread, Radien told me about it.  I have been hosting anime at my home every Friday night starting at 9:00pm for about a year now.  I was one of the main members of the old TUNAC anime club.  I have a 46" HDTV and 8.2 surround system as well as a media center computer that is tied into it. I can play DVDs, AVI's, MKV's, OGM's, you name it. I also have a massive collection of anime and torrent downloads.  I haven't updated it in awhile.

http://wuntvor.home.comcast.net/anime_list.htm

My wife, 16 year old son, and 21 year old daughter are usually around, as well as my daughters "girl posse", so younger female/male members should feel safe in attending.  I have no problems in meeting with parents of younger members if they wish to "check me out"  If anyone wants to attend feel free to contact me.  Space is sort of limited and I don't usually provide food or beverages anymore, although you can bring your own.  I will occasionally try to plan a meal with some gyoza (potstickers).

I can be reached at the following E-Mail

wuntvor@comcast.net

or you can call me at home  541-689-4219  in Eugene

I have a map to my home on-line that I will E-Mail to any interested parties.

Hope to see some of you soon.

@ Radien

As a DM I'm pretty loose it's about having fun.  For the Pulp Game set in 1937 we used PC classes, skills and feats/abilities from D20 Modern, D20 Past, Trinity D20 Adventure and D&D 3E.  It was what ever the players wanted for a PC concept and some of the campaign was modified to fit the PC backgrounds every one wrote or told me about.  We can see how serious any one is about actually playing or just looking at the pictures of elves in the books and playing with the minis.   And if any of your sister's friends are nerdettes you are welcome to bring them.

@ Wuntvor

Yeah Steve gave me your info once on a napkin at a K con meeting.  I don't remember any one else may age at TUNAC, it seamed after the meeting they would say creepy old guy and run off to watch anime.  I kept forgetting to go and or transportation, I’d be interested in the location.   And every one expects me to ask if your wife will have any of her single friends or sisters there nerdy with glasses 30 to 40 YO

You might as well bring it, every one misses anime and we have not watched any the last few meetups.   If I still have the $50 in my pocket by the time of the meeting we could take a filed trip to goodwill to look for a TV (I never have a ride when i find a good one) but I have a ride coming to get propane and snacks in a few

Actually, we spent most of the time chatting and watching Genshiken. However, I was only there a little over two hours, so I can't speak for what else was done that evening.

Wuntvor was there, and it was good to see him. I know he's got his own weekly anime thing, and it sounds like our two "gigs" aren't going to be consolidated, since Wuntvor wants to focus on the anime portion. But either way, I hope we can share members between the two. :)

Anyway, I'd like to continue showing Genshiken in the future, as it's very "educational" about the differences and similarities our club shares with Japanese clubs of the same type. That and it's damn funny once you get a few episodes into it.

I got thee at 6.15 and BSB got there at 7.00 then Radien called and came over at 7.30 and then Wuntvor called to come over at 8.00.

I thought no one was gonna show up so I ate all the Peperoni and ham for the crackers

We had geek talk and watched two eps of Genshiken Radien had on his Lap top and we hope to have some one rent the rest from Emerald City.   As the last 3 meeting have crashed with holiday weeks we hope to have a more decivive schedual the rest of the year.

I intend to rent Genshiken this time, but if worse comes to worse I have plenty more episodes still on my laptop. :) The translation is good either way, but the fansub has a bit more in the way of Japanese lingo and footnotes.

Anyway, yeah, if you want to catch up, watch episodes 1 and 2.

If enough people show up this Saturday who haven't seen it, perhaps we can see about rewatching the first two again. In this series I'd say that the first two episodes are pretty valueable, as they set up some of the quirky situations that keep developing throughout the rest of the series. ;) It's still quite possible to start in the middle of the series, though.

Thank you vondan.

I need all the pocky boxes I can get so that I can build my armor this spring.

My problem is that I don't have enough of the SAME kind of boxes. I have a lot of different flavors and one or two of the seasonals.

If anybody out there has giant pocky boxes i'll actually pay you a little for them. I buy those when I can but it takes so long to finish them because few of my friends actually like it.

NO remote BUTT!   I just realized it has the new types plug things on the front ( I went to video school 20 years ago) so I can plug the DVD player directly into it and use it on the Line input setting bypassing the RF Modulator but cant have it in a daisy chain with the VCR or Antennae.   So we can watch DVD  VHS (built into TV)  and game boxes.

I'm looking at how cool that flash Gordon DVD is right now.

The one thing we are missing is the heater tank is empty so if any one with a car can go get it filled that would make Steve happy.

Although I called my friend this morning about the remote and getting the tank filled.  He was in Florence dealing with Drama and said he was coming back to town but his cell phone don’t work outside of Eugene  (Young men I advise you don’t date chicks with addictive problems)

I can't make it to the meeting tonight.  I want to finish some projects tonight so that I don't have to worry about them tomorrow.

But I can make it to the meeting tomorrow. ^_^
