Maybe there should be sticky with the requirements? Since the contest is pretty much not different from the last one?

I've got some finishing touches to do on my chibi and my entry will be finished ^.^ It's much better than my entry for this year's mascot since I only had a few days to work on it then. I hope it might have a better chance this time around ^.^

I was wondering though.... is there anyway for us to see what the vote count was for the last contest?

Yeah... i dont know if im going to be able to enter.  I'm going away for a really big competition this upcoming week and wont return untill after the deadline, so i wont have time to work on an entry at all while im away @_@

Due to the small amount of entries to the mascot contest, we are extending the deadline to August 12, 2006.

Remember, we need an adult and chibi version of the mascot. Please scan your image and send to publicity@kumoricon.org by 11:59 am on the 12th of August. Voting will be launched on the 13th.

As the entries and the voting are anonymous, staff are allowed to enter, with the exception of publicity director.

Nope, it really was a last minute extension. Been trying to push for it to get extended but it just wasn't going to happen... and then so few wer completed that there wasn't anouther option.

This time we're using a new voting method. Instead of voting for one, you rank your entire preference order (or just your top few, or as many as you'd like). Then, a voting algorithm known as the Schulze method (which is a variant of the Condorcet method) is used to find the winner. (More explanation is on the voting page.)

We have many excellent candidates so it may be hard to pick so please check the voting page early so you have time to make your votes!

The site lacks the flexiblity that it needs to be truly useful at this point. The new site will have all kinds of coolness about it. I have a forum thread under forum "Forum announcements" where I encourage anyone who wants changes to the site to post.

This site has served us well for this year. (It's certainly prettier!)

I apologize for the error. It resulted from two of us working on saving the final mascot entries as they were coming in.

Shortly after your post, I added your image.

Before that, there were about 13 votes. We will not count those, and email those people (because the emails are recorded with the votes), saying that unfortunately this has occurred due to our error and they need to vote again. The votes are recorded with the time they were sent so we can determine this exactly.

Therefore, any votes after the time your image was posted will count. Hopefully this is the fairest way to handle it to all entries, and all voters.

I apologize for the inconvenience to those who must re-vote (a small number), but I think this is the only fair way to handle it.

I had soooo many ideas but I didn't have enough time to work on the ones I had to choose from.  I got soooo busy at work, art work, and other fun things to make preperations for the con.  I'm going all out this year.  I hope you all have a good time, too!

Here is the vote data breakdown as produced by the Schulze voting algorithm.

The software was fed a list of "ballots", taken from the log from the online voting system. Each ballot was a list of ranked choices, as many as that voter specified. It produced several pieces of output: A ranked list of winners (the first one being the actual winner), plus the "path matrix" and the "margins".

The margins may be more readable in determining how close one candidate was to defeating/losing to another. The path matrix is internally how the algorithm works. Details at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloneproof_Schwartz_Sequential_Dropping

Remember, a big advantage of this voting method is that every ballot (which ranks all the candidates) influences not only the first choice but the preference of each candidate over each other. Therefore the final ranked order should be taken as a very good indicator of the voting group's preferences.
