Printable Flyers are now Available!
« on: June 24, 2004, 01:10:38 pm »
We now have Flyers that people can print at home and take around to their local hangouts (for some of you/us, that's the workplace). Break rooms, community centers, card shops, comic shops, etc. Anywhere that you think interested parties will be passing by.

They are 1meg and 1.4meg respectively, so those of you on a modem, it will take a minute or two. Please let us know if you have any questions...

This is great, especially since I was planning on hitting up a bunch of Suncoasts to try and pre-order the SAC stuff! ^.^  And Uwajimaya is along the way! ^.^
No, I'm not insane.  I'm just... happy.

Yahooo!
Time to get to printing and copying!
Now, where are the people in Portland going to be puting them up because i don't want to spend an hour riding to a location just to find out somone else has already hit it!

I'm going to Uwajimaya, Animenia, Suncoast @ Washington Square, Rainy Day Games, Ancient Wonders, and Things From Another World Beaverton.

How about you guys?

Are there any suggestions from the staff on where we should put the flyers? Anime sellers, Comic shops, and RPG shops are good, anything else? Like Colleges and stuff?

Does anyone live on Eastside Portland? There's an Excaliber comics store over there that would be a great place to put up flyers at. I'm sort of in the Cedar Hills area, so it's a bit too long a drive through nasty downtown traffic to get there.

Other good places to post flyers: Borders, Barnes and Noble, the Hello Kitty store in Cedar Hills Crossing (formerly known as Beaverton Mall), PSU, ummm... And I think all the other ones I know of are already getting taken care....

I'll hit University of Portland! I've got a computer security summer class there Tuesday & Thursdays :D

Why PDF though? PDF is a *horrid* format!

Is there anywhere to get it in HTML?

Yep, promoting on forums is good. I've already told the anime bunch at Cypress (the software company my friend interns at), the rest of University of Portland anime club, and an anime RPG forum I'm on. Oh! I'll go post about it on the Noated.com forums too! *scurries off to do that*

Well, it's pretty hard to format this in HTML.  It's in PDF because that allows for maximum portability with minimal mess.  Concidering how I designed this in Photoshop, PDF was the best option.  Making it into a .jpg or .png created problems with readability, and there's the issue of having them printed the right size, usually jpgs or pngs will scale in funny ways and not print correctly.
Pretty much any printable document you find now on the internet will be a PDF, mainly because it is nicer looking to print (no wepage header or page number) and cross-platform.

PDFs are a widely used format.  Macs, PCs, and Linux OS's can read them and print them.  The fonts always show correctly, and they're easy.  Not our fault that Acrobat Reader on the PC sucks.  If you right click the link and choose to download it, it will download to your HD and you can open it from there.  Acrobat Reader works much better if you're openning a local file rather than something over the net.

Macs, well, they handle them seamlessly.  Go us.

Linux, well, I'd hope anyone using linux would have a PDF reader installed.

If you really want, I'll post eps (encapsulated postscript) versions, or PS (postscript) versions... or even TIFFs.  But like QEvil said, jpg's are going to be highly distorted when printed (they may look fine on your monitor, but printing something usually results in an image that has anywhere from 5-10x the resolution of a monitor).  If someone really really wants another format, then let me know, I'll get you hooked up.  But for now, PDFs are the best option.

What about PNG format?

This is great, I'll have to print one off and head to a Kinko's... maybe put some up in the Lloyd Center places I usually stop at, or Clackmas Town Center's Waldenbooks if I can get there.

it really wouldn't be worth it, Blackjack... we could make an HTML version too... but it would render differently on different platforms and browsers....

it's only a meg... I can't imagine Tualatin has phone lines so bad that you could have a connection any slower than 33.6... in which case it would take you... maybe 5 minutes.

not sure what that could be... could be many things.  best bet, right click to download it, once it's downloaded, open it locally... if it takes half an hour to open it locally, you've got something wrong with either Acrobat Reader, or your OS install.
