I was educated via the WA school systems and they far outclass the OR schools. We don't have famous cartoonists mocking our lack of care for education like public schools in OR schools do. I also don't see the news covering schools closing down, adding to overcrowding because the tax money that should be going to schools doesn't get to them . . .
All I know is we are building more and more and more schools around here. Maybe it depends on which district you're talkin' about?
I still say we take California XD
Well, I know for a fact that the Kent School District is having to overcrowd all of their high schools because they can't get voters to approve funding to build anymore middle schools, and, as it is, one of their high schools is not actually a high school originally, it's a correctional facility.
There was also the hallabaloo over the summer of the Seattle School District shutting down several elementary schools because of funding issues. You have to remember that, even I heard about it way out here in WY.
Let's not forget that the State approved a cost of living increase for all teachers, but has yet to pay it out because they claim teachers don't need it. Which is hilarious, as Seattle, and any of the surrounding areas, is not a cheap area to live in.
And, while yes, I know all about OR's severe school funding issues (there are many teachers in my family in many states, though mostly the west coast), Cali is no better off.
The main issue is the No Child Left Behind Act, which limits what teachers are allowed to teach, and automatically cuts funding when test scores go down. Which makes funding the education of the students in the area even harder, and spirals down into oblivion. I really hope that Act is overthrown or thrown out, as it only makes the state of education in the US worse, not better.
Of course, the west coast could take a look at what WY does to fund education, including nearly entirely free rides at college: liquor and tobacco taxes all go entirely into education. No shortage of funding here. Especially not with the way the frat boys drink around here. Heck, they could probably fund the entire Seattle school district for a year with just a month of their kegger money.
