Wow, you really are following my class's syllabus, aren't you? If you are planning to watch "The Bicycle Thieves", "The Seventh Sign", "Stagecoach", or "North by Northwest", then we should have some film discussions lol

Hoop Dreams
Unbreakable

You should watch them all.  I've seen everything on that list, and they're all great, with the exception of Unbreakable, which is meh.  I'd also add that if you like "A Night at the Opera" you will LOVE "Duck Soup". I think it's the Marx Bros' best film.

I must be really low-brow, but so many of these proclaimed "over-the-moon classics" of cinema are just....not my cup of tea, so to speak. Citizen Kane was alright, but really didn't strike me as the best thing I had ever seen, or carried much of a message worth analyzing, to me of course. Like I said, I must be really low-brow. I liked "Duck Soup" though, never seen "Casablanca", and pretty much every other movie we have watched in my class so far has bored me, except for "Stagecoach" and "The Bicycle Thieves". Hmm, I dunno....maybe if we were watching Nosferatu. That's a classic.

Movies:
Some movies I enjoyed, and you might too:

If you want to see a more serious movie about the Titanic, try "A Night to Remember."

If you want to just laugh like heck in a medieval spoof besides "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," try "Les Visiteurs."

If you like safe-cracker type stories, try "The Great Train Robbery," or "Lassiter." (Tom Selleck.) The second one starts off with a gratuitous R-rating scene just to get the rating, then it's clear sailing for the rest of the story.

Normally I don't like Westerns but there are a couple or three that I actually enjoyed. Ome of these is "Silverado." A very complex plot with characters that come and go, and great scenery. And a hilarious cameo by John Cleese. (Yes - in a Western!!) Speaking of westerns, if you ever want to hear the original "Badges?! We doan' got no Badges. We doan NEED no STEENKIN' BADGES!" line, it's from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre."

A WW-2 era POW escape thriller: "Von Ryan's Express."

If you liked "Braveheart," then try "Rob Roy" too.

Of course, YMMV.

Just in anime I have been jumping between Bleach, Naruto, Serial Experiments Lain, Monster, One Piece, Blood +, Pumpkin Scissors, Desert Punk, and Gun x Sword. The most recent thing I watched though is the HBO series Carnivale, which is an awesome show.

I would not know about Arrested Development.

Watching/ watched: Game Plan, someone told me it was good, I think it is because he has kids, that he found it so funny. Personally I liked Disney's Rocketman a lot better.

Got to see more of Seirei No Moribito. Man, I can't wait to buy this title!

Watching more Gantz, and I still like the opening theme, and the show. Wishing it came in discs of more than 2 episodes, as Netflix has been slow about it.

I started Paradise Kiss last night, and while the genre is not my cup of tea, I love the animation, and style. I am going to watch more of this just because I like that they did it with style but did not take themselves too seriously. They seem to have blended the high costs of many of their animation styles, with lower cost animations, that do not affect how I feel about it, not adversely anyway.

I think for Anime Friday, I am going to bring an analog PDA so I can keep track of what we have watched, and which episode.

Laurifer: Arrested Development is fantastic!  I'm especially partial to it from having worked in the real estate development business.

Jay: I loved Gantz.  The opening track is one of the few Jpop tunes I've heard that that really stands on its own as pop music.  Check your yahoo mail!

Finished disc 1 of Paradise Kiss. Franz Ferdinand does the ending song. Catchy little song, and it makes me wonder why they don't get any airplay here. This story has caught my attention now. I feel a certain realism to it that many anime lack. But the guy is so totally good looking and fashionable, I wonder that he isn't really gay, it just seems that he would be made so were this American. I mean c'mon, rich, fashionable, extremely handsome, not an athlete, and he isn't gay? Just strikes me as out of character somewhat. Man how the world has changed in my lifetime. lol

It's such a thrill to see major western bands lending their music to anime titles!  My favorite example is one of my favorite bands, Radiohead doing the ending credits for Ergo Proxy.

I'm still watching Saiunkoku Monogatari

How to ruin Singin' in the Rain: watch; A Clockwork Orange. The first of the Ultra-violent movies, but as it is a Stanley Kubrick film, it's a really good movie. It cam out in the same year as Willy Wonka did, so that was a great year for films as far as I am concerened.

Watching some Shonen Onmyouji, again, this time from Netflix.

We watched more Clannad, and Spice and Wolf Friday, and another episode of Seirei No Moribito.

Other than that I haven't even turned my TV on. Been too busy either catching up on sleep, or doing the stuff I should have been doing.

Got the next couple of Naruto uncut Boxed sets, so I am watching the Chunin Exam stuff now. It's good the way they misdirect the audience. More surpsises than Dragonball, I think.

Also started watching Saiyuki. Not sure what to think yet, only have watched one disc worth of episodes so far. I hope there is something to the story as the animation leaves a lot to be desired.
