Watched more Story of Saiunkoku last Friday. Still enjoyable. THen we watched some Canadian cult animated movie. I won't call it a classic. no...just no...

Watching Genshiken. This is good. Lots of love there for their medium. But they don't take themselves too seriously. One of the few anime where I am not clicking ahead to the next epipsode, it seems there is something there continuously coming up, so I would miss something if I skipped ahead.

I can always go back to my own copy of Death Note. Speaking of Death Note, it seems to me that it took a lot from Alaxander Solzhynitsyn's Gulag Archipelago. Except that in that book, no one was writing only the criminals. But people ended up unheard of again.

So while Kahlan and I were working on our costumes today, we were able to enjoy some of the fine selections of anime offered ondemand by Anime Network and Anime Selects. It is rare when they actually have first episodes of anything up (and we hate to just jump in the middle of a show), but today was nice, they had several first episodes of stuff up. We started watching Ninja Nonsense and Full Metal Panic, and both of those shows were entertaining. I love Ninja Nonsense now, lol, it is totally raunchy but man, it had mo roflmao'ing! Good stuff. I'm gonna look forward to watching more of that show in the future, heh.

Finished watching Tokko. That was good. I know it is a familiar genre, but I think they really did an excellent job. Had me staying up late watching just one more episode...!

The Naruto Uncut DVD Box 9 came out today, so I got mine. I hope this isn't the start of the filler episodes. urk Am looking forward to getting home tonight. I still can't believe I like this show!

I'm going to watch the Clone Wars at midnight, after I get off work. I like Genndy Tartakovsky's works. And this weekend I may go see Tropic Thunder.

Anime Friday we may watch; Kenkou Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho, Muteki Kanban Musume(Ramen Fighter Miki), Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Ninin Ga Shinobuden( Ninja Nonsense: The Legend of Shinobu), these are just in so who knows.

We may also continue watching Story of Saiunkoku, and Rosario Vampire. We may even start watching Dennou Coil.

Or we could spend too much time looking up silly stuff on the net. Dunno.

@EveofAbyss
I have also been watching Ninja Nonsence. I like it!

I just started watching King of Bandits: Jing. Again. I miss it.

Online I started to watch Bartender. A nice little series about a bartender that helps people with their problems & gives out info about the history of bars, cocktails, ect. The bartender also looks like Roy Mustang from FMA. That doesn't hurt things either. ;)

Still watching Marmalade Boy and Wedding Peach.

We had First Episode Theater last Friday. Ninja Nonsense, Ramen Fighter Miki, Dennou Coil.

Clone Wars, ok it fits the cannon, but was disappointing on many levels. For example, only about two of the actors from the films were used in the V.A. work. To put my view of it in as few words as possible: back and forth, back and forth.

I watched a trio of vignettes presented by Hiroshino Otomo, or is that name backwards? Anyway it is called Memories, and I got it from Netflix on a single disc. I thought this was good stuff. They are about 40-45 minutes in length each. I liked them very much, even if I am not 100% sure of the point of each story. But then I think that is much of the point of good art, it doesn't leave you completely sure of what you feel.

Last night I started Hakkenden. I can see it is going to take several episodes before I understand what is happening, and why places seemingly so unrelated are in fact the opposite. It is a dramatized historical drama beginning in the year 1458. I'm not sure but i think this qualifies as a "classic" Even if there are no giant robots, yet.

I also really enjoy that movie, but I think it is by Katsuhiro Otomo (the creator of Akira and Roujin Z). Yeah, I really agree with you though, it is a dizzying array of emotions displayed in the three very different vignettes. I think my favorite is the second one, "Stink Bomb", lol. That one had me cracking up.

Finished Hakkenden last night. Good story, and the Digest as an extra, although it is narrated in English, it did help explain some parts of the story that seemed to be missing to me. It was a bit too jumpy for me, go from here to there and no rhyme or reason why, except to make the story more complex, or keep viewers attuned. So many anime seem to have sad endings, even if "Good" wins.

Started Gungrave. I guess they love mix and match genres too. Westerns/Spy thriller/Mafia Gangster is how best I can acsribe the genre. But I am trying to figure out which story they really want to tell. That of the past, or the one they spent the first episode developing, but have since ignored the rest of the way through disc one. It's good enough that I'll continue watching, and hope to get a better feel for if I like it or what.

Shouldn't you be watching Tokyo Godfathers at Christmas time? And every Christmas thereafter? I think it's a holiday classic. Since I bought the DVD, I am going to take it up to my mom's this Christmas. I hope that if I can watch A Christmas Story, she can watch Tokyo Godfathers.

I watched a French animated film last night called Kaena the Prophecy. No relation to Karas the Prophecy. Although it was all done in computer animation, and being French they didn't have but freeware to create this film. Proving that if you bang your head on the wall long enough you too can bring the house down, I guess.

I really don't know how to rate this film. There were parts that I thought were well done, and others that I thought just really didn't work. My biggest peeve was that although it was made in France, French was not a language choice. Merd! And other choice words.

Now back to Gungrave. I wonder if this is going to give me another funky dream like I had last night.

If you really have orange hair I guess we will start calling you Leelu (sp?) perfect!

We watched some new show Friday. I dunno but I feel kind of ill watching 10 year old girls, even if they are saving the world.

So I go home and I have Magic Knight Rayearth waiting for me in my mailbox. I saw one episode at the con, and thought it was just a little old as far as the animation style goes. More young girls saving something. arrgh. So what else is in the mailbox. Simoun, more girls, but much more yuri than usual, and they are saving something too. help me. lol

Next up is a couple of the Hellboy animated whatevers.

Watched Bender's Big Score last night. I thought it was up to par. Dunno what some critics were whining about. It was an episode of Futurama, not a Globe Theatre production of the Iliad. Stayed up late watching some of the Extras. There is a good one for you math geeks.

Tonight it will be another of the Hellboy animateds.

Oh, I went to see Igor last night. I had some good laughs here and there. But I can see why this wasn't released during the summer blockbuster season. It has too many literary references. Saints preserve us, an animated film that dares to be more literate! How dare they! That and I think it had a large French contingent in the making of the film. I liked it. I spent far too much time worrying if I was going to have fun or not, to just let the film take me where it will. sigh. But it did grab me, and then when I think I know what is going to happen, it took me somewhere else. And so I had to stop worrying, and was able to fully enjoy myself.
