Saw Slumdog Millionaire last night. If it wins best picture Oscar, I will not be too heartbroken, as Batman didn't even get a nod, to whine about unfairness. I must have sat near film critics, they wouldn't shut up about the film.

Oh, saw Jet Li's Tai Chi Master Saturday. It was not a masterpiece. It was okay, and gave some historical references, at least in the Extras. But this film leads me to believe that the better Communist Chinese films have Western participation. As this didn't have any. Just Hong Kong influence, as they spoke Cantonese, not Mandarin.

But really, it's the story that has me in a flux about it. It seems to be picking up at about the 50 minute mark. For me that is a touch long on the gimme the good stuff ned I have when watching a piece. But.... we'll see...

Also got Very Private Lessons in the mail. Can you say ecchi? Okay my main problems with this are; it's a bit dated, I have seen many more recent anime that basically follow this same plot. Maybe I'll finish it.

And to think I was looking forward to these after Papuwa!

I watched Galerians: Rion, last night. It looked to be early computer generated animation. So the characters were rather jerky in their movements. Also, the story was one that maybe could have been series long, i.e. 13 episodes, but it was long enough at just over one hour. I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone save for the computer animation otakus out there.

I could see what the producers were trying to accomplish with this OVA, but they fell short of the mark. I think in part because of using computer animation, and it was too time and money intensive. However I believe that there were many factors that precluded this anime from being a better vehicle than it is.

Toward the Terra, is what's on now. It's a much better anime, in all regards than what I have been forced to endure of late. In a way it's like Gundam without the robots, or continuity errors. But it has a much more plausible plot. I dunno, maybe they just seem to have a better handle on human nature than most sci-fi action, but wants to be so much more sophisticated than your average giant robot show. No, it's giant computers! I can't give it a 5 star on Netflix, but it's a high 4 star rating, in my book. It's not full of crazy and zany antics, so avoid it if you need that in your anime.

Flag. This is a superior anime, in my opinion. A lot of attention to detail was spent making this series. And I can't say if it is more oriented towards story, or to animation. It's done as a documentary, so the pacing is more dramatic, especially for a war story. It is tough to watch, because is is a war story. When you watch it, you need to allow time for your mind to wrap around the situation.

Note, if the UN is run anything like in this series, I wouldn't allow them to rescue a dog, let alone a nation. It also makes me wonder how the Japanese nationals feel about the UN.

Well Jay, since nobody else seems to be commenting here I thought I would throw out this bombshell and see if I can liven up the thread.

A student at LCC mentioned this show to me after class and told me I should watch it, so tonight during dinner I started up the stream and watched it.  It definitely made me question everything I think I know about both religion and government.   

The show is called Zeitgeist - The Movie. and I am pretty much numb right now.  I am angry, scared, confused, outraged, and not at all surprised.  Click the link and watch the film.  It is 2 hours long so give yourself time.  Reply in this thread with your feelings about it.  I am curious to see what other people think.   George Orwell may not have been far of the mark, he just got the cenury wrong, he ment 2084.

@ Wuntvor, um, I saved the Z movie in my netflix save pile. Whenever that comes around. I can only hope that this new pop psychology whatever....I am not big on philosophy. Too much hand wringing, and what ifs and whatevers. I believe in DO.

Watched Beast With a Billion Backs last night. I think it was a humorous attempt at philosophy by Greoning and co. I had a bit of a time caring. As in not! At least it kept Stimpson J. Cat off the streets for a bit.
