Mascot and cover contest questions!
« on: May 19, 2007, 11:05:57 am »
Reading through the rules and stuff for them I saw a lot of computer language for the requirements which made me wonder are we allowed to do traditionally done submissions? Seeing the fact that I fail at photoshop having to color digitally could be a problem D:
Also if that is not that case and traditional and digital art are accepted will doing my stuff traditionally hinder my ability to possibly win?

Thanks for the help~

Hand drawn is perfectly fine! It will just ultimately need to be scanned to be submitted. The computer specifications would then just simply apply to the scanned copy. Let us know if there is a problem or question with any specific requirement.

Traditionally, mascots that are computer drawn, or at least look like they are computer-drawn, win in contests for the mascot at any con--however this is not a requirement!

You might consider applying computer techniques to the scan of your hand-drawn art, after scanning.

Another question, no need for another thread?

I also had a question about the cover contest... namely, are we allowed, not allowed, discouraged or encouraged to use the 2007 mascot for the various covers?  Or does it matter in any way shape or form?

I would personally prefer seeing the mascot used as much as possible, but I don't know if that's even a legal issue or anything of that matter.  *shrugs*  So I thought that I would ask as I looked and looked and just couldn't see it anywhere in the rules....

I'm really nervous about traditional versus digital entries myself. Mine's traditional, too. I'm horrid at computer coloring so I opted what I'm best at *crosses fingers* It appears to have been accepted fine, so here's hoping!

Best of luck to everyone, too.

Question: If we're going to the meeting on the 15th, and our entry is digital, would you like us to put it onto a CD? Thank you!

Yes, if you can't email it, on CD would be best so that it stays digital! But if somebody hand draws something, I can scan it.

Voting is only open to staff, as explained in the rules. But if you are staff, you can vote even if you entered.

Jeff - Thanks! We'll be putting it on a CD, then.
I know that results won't be announced until closing ceremonies, but will the winners know before? [curious]

Even though only staff can vote are you guys gonna put up the contest entries on the site for people to see before the con? I'm pretty sure all of the entrants are curious as to what other people have done.

I'm not sure we'll post them during voting, but we'll definitely post the gallery publicly after voting has closed, but before the con. That way there will be suspense for when you see the winners, especially for the mascot at closing ceremonies!

We probably won't announce the winners to anyone, even the winners, until just before they are announced to the public. The reason is that we want to be sure it's a surprise, to everyone.

Hey Jeff, I just sent my submission in through Yousendit. Yeah, I know... only an hour before deadline, I was having some computer problems. But If you don't get it or there's anything wrong then please let me know.

The email I provided is current and working  :)

That's flat out mean! :P Here I am, relooking over the past entries and on the verge of hyperventilating. Good lord. I didn't think I'd get so worked up over this.

Sorry for the late reply, boogie, here's to traditional art! Huzzah! Best of luck to you, too!
