The world is physically huge but socially small! I realised this while hiking up the West Hills of Portland to my dad's house in Hillsdale a few years ago. I realised that the world I stood was a great massive thing; I looked over to Mount Hood and saw the awesome passive power of the earth's flowing current; lazily building great mountains and chasms that we can hardly fathom. Then I consider the way I can hop on a bus downtown in a city of millions of people, look around, and see 2 or 3 people I know amongst the faceless crowds. It's absurd.

What are your thoughts on the subject?
