That reminds me - if anyone is travelling up by Olympia, WA on I-5, there is one sign saying "Capitol Museum," then a few miles past it another sign reads "Capital Museum."

I guess one of those museums has displays of various sorts of currency, negotiable instruments, and the top parts of certain Classical columns. Or maybe visitors get beheaded or killed in other nasty yet official sanctioned ways...

Looks like it was a full 9-round salvo.

What's kinda sad is that we no longer have the manufacturing base to MAKE rifled gun barrels like those, and same goes for the shells - there are probably several hundred of those 16"-ers around, the powder getting slightly less stable every day. I think the bombardment of Lebanon was the last time they would ever be fired in anger...

.. I seem to recall there was some radio chatter basically saying: 'Use 'em up - when they're gone they're GONE..."

Nope, only 3. 9 would turn the ship over! Or so I've heard.

I don't know more of anything, they've been out of service almost as long as I have. But I just think they were awesome to shoot the weight of VW Bugs up to 35 miles, at mach 2.
