Heh. So true. My mom told me that I shouldn't like Sailor Moon anymore because it was "kids stuff", to which, I showed her the Japanese version, with unedited subtitles, and she stopped calling it that...^_^
O_o; I keep hearing comments like this, and it's got me inundated with curiosity. I'm not sure whether to call it "morbid" curiosity, because that depends on how much truth there is in what I hear. Some of it may be exaggeration or just joking.
Okay: I've heard people saying -- no,
insisting -- that the original Sailor Moon series was borderline ecchi. And this was
not said with the tone of an aging Sailor Bubba who wants with all his heart for it to be true.
I've only seen about 20 minutes total of the anime. I've seen several episodes of the live action show, but it's obviously been reformatted to truly target young teen girls (though it's getting plenty of attention from girls older than that in the U.S.).
Now, in a way this entire post is part of "things not to say at a con," because blurting this out in a public area would most certainly result in a Moonie debate lasting for the next 20 minutes minimum.
So please remember that all of the above is hearsay unless otherwise noted.
P.S. - Someone really needs to start a Conventions 101 thread. This courtesy discussion is great, but it was a rather heavy topic to spring on an unsuspecting thread such as this.
