Anybody else excited for the Masquerade? The idea no one knowing who you are for two hours, it sounds so romantic. So, is anyone else taking the suggestion of black tie and going in formal? I think it would be awesome to see most of us all dressed up.

Do school uniforms count as formal? I'm going to be Itsuki from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya for a day, so I'll have it with me. It's about as formal as I've got. It's got a nice shiny tie. >.>;; I would just love to get some pictures of the Masquerade ball, it's such a great idea. Plus, it reminds me of FF8. XD;

There is a Ballroom Dancing panel prior to the Masquerade ball that is meant to teach people how to ballroom dance. I'll be there to help out the person running it, so if you want to learn some dancing basic I would suggest you drop by.

I am so excited for this! I love masquerades and ballroom dancing!
I just wish I knew about it sooner, (convention noobie here) then I would have had time to make an appropriate costume!

Cosplay is allowed, as long as you are also wearing a mask.  If you don't have a mask, there is a "Make Your Own Mask" workshop earlier in the day.

Oh this will  be weird. Even if there will be ballroom lessons, what if there isn't enough room? I have no idea how to dance formally.

Luckily for women, Ballroom is horribly sexist. Find a good male lead and even no knowledge of ballroom dancing won't be a major issue. As long as you remember the Golden Rule: Women Don't Lead. That may sound beyond offensive, but that's how ballroom is (I'm speaking of the norm, of course there are times when women may lead).

Other quick ballroom tips:

Framework (how you stand, hold your arms and such) must be firm.

Support your own weight (personally, I can't stand dancing with women who don't do support themselves).

Don't look at your feet, easiest way to make mistakes.

Don't stare at your partner's face, look over there shoulder (this is key during Waltz). Make sure to watch their back as they'll be watching your's.

This man speaks the truth on both accounts. Most ballroom moves are signalled by the smallest changes (arm position, feet position, finger position). And no one likes undignified action on the dance floor.

Oh! Another question (this is my first masquerade...I haven't been to KumoriCon since they started doing them), will it be dimly lit like the normal dances, or will it be brighter? At least, based on previous years.

Obviously, I'm the girl from Louisiana coming to Kumoricon for the first time and am just stumbling over everything you can possibly imagine. I'm lost, don't know when, where, or at what time or any of the events taking place, just nothing. Now, I hear of a Masquerade Ball that I didn't know was even going to happen and would love to have my first dance with my beloved. I'm on the verge of tears here and am in need of help and guidance.

First of all, do you have to be dressed in formal clothing for this Masquerade Ball? What day does it start and at what time? I don't have a hotel room, so if formal clothing is needed, I can't go. Throughout the three days of this convention, I'm waking up, getting dressed in my cosplay, getting on the max, then have to walk across the bridge to the hotel. I'm just hoping and praying I don't somehow get lost.

Second of all, and I apologize for bringing up multiple subjects in this thread (I really do), will it be real hard for someone whom's not a VIP member to see the guests and get autographs? I'm highly upset at the fact that I've been checking the guest page multiple times to see the same people and then out of the blue, the voice actor of Shadow the Hedegehog, Sean Shemmel, is going to be there. I find this out -after- I leave Dayton to go to Portland. So, all the Shadow the Hedegehog items I have in my bedroom, I couldn't even get a single one to get autographed. So, now I'm praying to the Lord above that I find something of Shadow the Hedgehog in the dealer's room out of emergency to get autographed. I've been waiting for the day to get an autograph from him for the longest time and I fear it won't happen. Is there anyone whom's been to this convention multiple times that can reassure me on this?

Just so you know, I'm going to be cosplaying as Aya from Tenjo Tenge on Saturday, Kareha from Shuffle! on Sunday, and Bakery Chii from Chobits on Monday. I have blonde hair, wear glasses, and if you see me, I'd appreciate -any- help you can give. You'll most likely see me holding printed papers of the map over and over trying to figure out where everything is. Trust me, I shouldn't be too hard to find. Also, if this helps, I have a childish voice. I'm nineteen, but sound very young. If you're someone that's going to be at the registration table, you should know it's me right away from the Louisiana identification you're going to see. I don't mean to be a bother of any kind, but please, if you can help me in any way possible, I'd just appreciate it so much.

Also, if someone's used to the surroundings and places of Vancouver, I'm eventually going to need to eat. Is there someone I can familiarize myself with for help once this happens? My apologies, honestly, my deepest apologies, but I'm just worried about so much.

The Masquerade is on Sunday, 7-9pm. They're saying that if you're in cosplay, you don't need formal dress. And there's a "make your own mask" thing beforehand. But I'm not sure about the details on that one.

Also, you don't need to walk across the bridge. For 1, that's an insanely long walk and can be terrifying if you have any problems with heights! There's a shuttle from Delta Park (the end of the yellow line Max) to Vancouver. I'll be taking that myself Sunday morning at like 7am.

I'm sure the voice actors will be doing panels. Maybe you can snag something there? I do know that the AG guys will be in the dealers room. *shrugs*

There's going to be a map of places to eat in the pocket guide. And there's some good stuff with in walking distance. Such as a Burgerville, 1/2 a mile from the Con.

Hehe, I was checking out the masquerade in the information booklet thingy. It sounds like fun! all times that i went to one before my dance partners would have to teach me the dance moves XD.. rawr. i think i MIGHT go o_o.. still a little bleh for me though hehe.

There's going to be ballroom dance lessons before hand, if you're worried about knowing how to dance. I'm definately hitting up that, myself.

And, I answered my own question! The halloween store....is open! Got my mask today. :3

I was going to go, just like the dance on saturday and the cosplay contest but the whole huge line thing.  I really can't stand it.  Someone even asked me if I was going and if I was going with anyone because if not I could be with her and dance with her.  I was flattered but I said I wasn't sure if I was going or not.  Then when I decided that I wanted to go the line was too huge for me to want to be a part of it.

Then, they let people in filling up the whole room and the line was still there.  Apparently people were waiting for a chance to take someone's place as they left.  Hopefully they'll put this in a bigger room next year

I had a blast. But it was sad that they didn't play more slow music. In the hour and a quarter that I was in there, there were maybe 3 decent songs, even though everyone was trying to slow dance to the faster music.

I went, but I was kind of disapointed ;_;  I mean, it was still fun, but I was in a big ball gown, and had been expecting slow, waltzy ballroom music, not the wierd fast-slow-fast-slow rotation.  It was difficult to waltz to even the 3/4 slow songs, and while I was able to swing to the faster ones, they obviously weren't intented for that either.  If they do this next year (which they should, it's still an awesome idea!), I'd like to actually play music that fits.  I want to ballroom dance, dammit.  I mean, there were regular dances each night anyway, so I was expecting something different.  The mask thing was cool, but the mask making workship and dancing lesson had way to long a line for me to get to them...

Like I said, it should definately happen again next year, but I think they could do better...
