Cosplay Wounds
« on: September 04, 2007, 03:28:22 am »
Okay, so I'm not one to start topics, but this is just so bizzare I gotta.

Not to long ago I was running my fingers through my hair, for no reason, but instead of it just ending like it should something wierd happened. There was blood on my fingers. o_O;;; So, after blinking wide eyed for several moments in disbelief I rushed to the nearest mirror and turns out I have a rather good-sized red wound upon my skull that I had scratched open accidentally. Now, I am not usually one to crack my head open willingly, so I wonder... perhaps my wigs? Did I leave a gash in my head from a pin or something?

So, anyone else suffer physical (yes, just physical, we aaaall suffer psychological damage from cosplay, no matter what. =P) injury from their cosplaying?

I have rubbed raw skin on my chest, sides and back from the medical tape I used to bind myself for two days. It hurts like a bitch! ><; I also have a large blister on the back of my heel from the boots I wore for Bowman Jean (Star Ocean EX) on Saturday.

All I've noticed so far is that I'm a bit stiff, so it's hard to walk around, and I have a good amount of blisters on my feet.  ;-;

Oh, and my knee hit the floor pretty hard during the Host Club tea party playing Duck Duck Goose.  xB  Big bruise there.

Amazingly, the only headache I got this year was caused early by me putting my wig on wrong.  o_O  That was easily fixed by putting the edge of the wig on the elastic of the wig cap.

Hmm well before the con my sister and I got into a fight about something to do with cosplaying ::{being her complaining and wanting me to do things for her costume when I was working on other stuff that needed to be done}:: and she got me with her nails in the inside of my elbow and ripped it up D: I don't know if that counts or not though XD

I did look like I had a flesh eating disease at the con because of it XD

I didn't go as far as binding with tape, but I wore a super tight swim top to be a bit flatter.
Wearing it the entire day left pink welts where it squeezed...owie.

Ouch again!

I didn't really get any wounds...well, some welts around my forearm from the lip of my gunarm squeezing tightly, but nothing that bad. Sorry to hear of all of your pains, though. Blessings and potions to you all!

Well, I have a burn on my arm from my iron, but that was during prep.  I didn't really get injured at the con, but I did stab someone on the next with my crown, if that counts...lol, sorry Mike!

Owwww. o_o Man, the sacrifices we go through for cosplay, huh? But we shall all become better with the potions from EveofAbyss! :D

the_wind_the_sea

If none of your cosplays are open chest, I suggest wearing a sports bra, and then binding yourself over it. The sports bra will make you smaller a bit itself, and it'll save you the pain of tearing the tape off your skin later. >.O;;

I have a sports bra, but for the life of me, I could not find it before the convention. So, I just suffered. I bound at Sakura-Con, and had my sports bra, nothing bad happened. *sighs*I need to keep an inventory of all my cosplay stuff.

My head hurt pretty bad from wearing my wig. x_x I still have some nice red marks on my forehead, and they still hurt. I also felt a bit dizzy all day yesterday. (I'm guessing from the wig) I also got some blisters on my feet from my boots.

 Binding tape RAWR!! My torso is covered in bloody gashes that look and feel like I was whipped nearly to death. It took a lot to not scream when I was taking them off. Also, I forgot that Im allergic to that stuff. >_<

Oh, also my ankles have the same wounds.

Also my knees are bruised and swollen from the cosplay chess game ( so is my left hand) I also got carpet burn. i iddnt think I hit the ground that hard. Curse you Toubiiiiii!!

My shoulders and back hurt liek hell. Me and my other belachy friends were skipping around on the rocks. They made a joke about it being 'shunpo' amd teh mlaughed at me for not being abel to use shunpo. I said ' I can too! Slipped on the rock and fell flat on my back.

And yes, those are  all cossply injuries. Cosplaying as Renji is really just asking for it. XD

Wearing Kairi shoes. On one side the glue came undone so I had to safety pin it.. And it was really tight (Had to be with only 1 X of lacing on the shoes instead of the normal like.. 6-7) so.. Now I have a purple ingrown toenail/blister thing on my big toe ;-; Oww. Plus random scratches on my back. I'm guessing from my boyfriend running into me as Py-Head with his sword or somethin'.

xD My own sword stabbed me when I was Yachiru, and Ken-chan hit me in the shin with his sword xD and I escaped an angry Renji so xD

So far I'm good. A few glomps came out painful due to elbows in the chest area. But all seems well.

My Uryuu Ishida cosplay didn't injure me at all. It was pretty light, easy to wear, and all that good stuff.

Though my other costume, a random catboy, gave my neck collar-burn. It's mostly gone now though, was really freaking sore at first though. ._.

Uhm, my fingers and toes started to go numb after a while when I wore my Haseo costume. Plus I couldn't stand still for long or else the balls of my feet started to ache.

I also passed out while wearing that costume because of the heat. x____x; Not fun.

i put doulbe sided tape on my arms to keep up the half sleeves of my Tayuya costume. Being cheap however, i bought regular permanent tape instead of the kind that is intended to wear on the body.  so i have nice hairless stripes on my arms as well as a few bruises. after i pulled the first strip off and saw that it was full of hair, i considered leaving the rest on, but they had to come off. it was painfull... i now i have to wear long sleeves cus i look dumb

Well, since i sold my Sesshoumaru costume last winter, I didn't wear it and therefore didn't get the long purple bruise across my chest.
I did however successfully manage to seriously damage my ankle while learning the Haruhi Suzumiya dance (and running up and down the stairs a hundred times didn't help either). My ankle is sufficiently swollen and sore such that I can't really walk on it at all tonight.

Yeah the first time I twisted my ankle during TMHS dance as well, my shoes were evil. Than I had to wear boots that weighed easily 5 pounds each the rest of the weekend, I litterally had to pull myself up the stairs.

for those of you that saw me, i was hunched over almost the entire con... so my back and legs hurt REALLY bad. (though i got a massage from some nice naruto cosplaying girls, so it softened the blow) In addition to that i was bound up with an ace bandage, so sneezing and yawning was difficult/painful, and i also had alot of red marks every time i unbound.

but it was totally worth it! xD

I had a nice burn, or just very little skin left on my chin afterwards. It happened when people would ask me what I said and I'd have to pull my beak off that was duct taped to my face. My nose was a bit tougher, but apparently my chin skin just wasn't so.

The cheap pink flip flops I used for my Manry cosplay ended up assisting in splitting the skin under the toe next to the big one. Same foot had a big strip of skin out of it from previous incident, and walking around that much didn't help.  :-[

I don't really get hurt AT con, but the days leading up to it I'm always really full of accidents.

Before Kumori it was:
-cut on my eyelid
-two pretty bad burns on my right arm and more less noticable burns across my left hand fingers
-2 long cuts on my left leg (probably from tripping over something at work)

Work hurts me a lot~

I've gotta say, I have no idea why anyone binds with tape!!!  Ace bandages are the way to go, ladies!

If you're dead-set on using tape, maybe cut up and old t-shirt and tape that over you, so you don't tear you skin off!  I haven't ever used tape to bind . . .

It's really dangerous!

i was cosplaying as ichigo when he is fighting Byakuya with the hollow mask...tried to use that sports tape stuff (which when i bought it i didn't know it was tape >.>;;thought it was just that bandage wrap stuff that i was going to wrap my self with...note:open stuff before getting to con...)didn't want to stick to the mask very well so ended up using duck-tape >_o wich kept trying to fall any way that first day... god duck-tape likes to take skin with it...and doesn't like sweat ^_^;;

used the sports tape to wrap myself since its all i had... bad marks on chest >_o third day i took stuck some of the tape on the back so only the ends where taped to my skin =D thx to who ever suggested that on the second day! wish someone would have suggested it sooner though x.x
