The whole point of Cosplay Chess, at least IMHO, is to have fun. Good costumes are good (you want to at least recognize the piece), enterainment is good (what's the point, if it's not fun), and everybody enjoying the experience is the goal.
I would love it if everybody that wants to participate in the event can, but we have limited time and limited space. Your chance of being a chess piece is dependent on how many people sign up for the event. If there are small number of sign-ups, odds are you are going to be able to play. If a bunch of people sign-up, then it's possible you might not, and that's when your cosplay is going to be a deciding factor.
I loved the game last year - every piece was played, and they were able to participate more than just standing on the board. But it took a lot of time, and we were only able to play one game. If people want more than one game, then there's a good chance that the game will be played quicker, but you may never move on the board... it's a trade-off.
Now, I'm not trying to discourage anyone that's interested, I'm just trying to explain my end of things. When the sign-ups go up in few months, please, take a picture of your cosplay and send in your form. I'm hoping to see a good variety of cosplays, and hopefully we can get a good theme (or 2) going. Then we can see how the teams shake out, and what kind of match(es) we'll see.
As to whether or not the event is "good"... I don't particularly care if it's the best strategically played match, or if the entire board is wiped out. As long as everyone has fun, it's all good in my book
