Yeah, you should never procrastinate.
In my Technical Writing class in college, if an assignment is not turned in on time in class, but at a later time, 10% is taken off of the homework grade. And if it's a day late, the grade is an automatic zero. After two late assignments, the student will automatically fail the class and will have to retake the course for credit.
Learn now to do things ahead of time so you aren't stressing when deadlines come up.
Besides, in college you don't get a lot of homework because mostly you learn everything in your classes. So it seems like you can relax but you really need to be more serious and get things done right away.
Wednesday I was given my first homework assignment where I am taking a 1200 word document and condensing it to exactly 100 words with the exact same amount of information present. Yes, this seems very easy and I was even given almost two weeks to complete it so slacking off is a very good option. Guess what? It's not. I haven't done it yet but I'm doing it today so this way I can go over and review it and make sure everything I want is in the paper.
And yeah, I may say school is my last priority but in all reality, it's my first. The reason school normally is listed as my last priority is because I have all of my work done and I don't have to worry about school. But once I get homework or need to pay money for tuition or books, it jumps to the top of the list.
School should always be the first thing you worry about because education will take you far in life.
