The famous saying "Things happen for a reason" happens to everyone, what they most often never get to understand is why it happens. On the last day of Wonder Northwest was the Cospaly Contest I had waited for, along with everyone else it seemed. It was a hot day, even more so while struggling with putting on my Inuaysha cosplay inside the men's bathroom stall at a Safeway on the way to the con. The drawstring meant to tighten the left sleeve started coming out of place. Standing in the stall, sweating under two layers of robe and exhausted with fighting through cloth to tie the belts off, I abandoned the idea, and resorted to my Luigi cosplay, which wasn't so overbearing and easier to put on. I shaved my natural mustache off the night before in hopes of cosplaying Inuyasha, but I carried on and went to the con as "babyface" Luigi. I thought about how warm it was just putting the robes on, and couldn't imagine how I might have felt with the long white wig on top of that, AND carrying my huge 6 ft tall Tetsusaiga prop. I might have scored big in the contest...but would have passed out trying. As I enjoyed the day, the contest hour drew near and I still wanted to make an effort to enter, even against the odds of the army that started pouring in. When I went to find the on-site registration, apparently it was an hour earlier, yet it wasn't even listed in the program. I didn't blame the con, being only in their second year and still working out the bugs. I still felt so screwed over by fate, and demoralized with the mass of cosplayers crawling out of the woodwork seemingly JUST for the contest, I felt like I wanted to scream "WHAT'S THE POINT!!?" I retired to the courtyard, where some cosplayers who were waiting on the dance party as opposed to the contest had gathered. I found some friends who I hadn't sen in a long time and didn't expect to find at this small of a con. Kicked it with them until the dance started up, broke out the NES controller on the floor and busted moves to my own button mashing, then yanked by the overalls into the circle and gave the small crowd a show. In conclusion to this epic tale, which I can assume many will overlook and few will read, I guess I wasn't meant to enter the contest, just needed to find my place. I never got what I wanted, but I had what I needed...another famous saying that's all too often true.
