Just out of curiousity, does anyone know how the whole pirates vs. ninjas thing began?

In my opinion from what I see there has been the
Naruto vs One piece thing as a great example, I have yet to meet someone who loved both shows, there is always a fight between wich is better pirates or Ninjas

ps.....Ninjas own >.>

I'm going as Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean, so I can do something for the Pirate side, but I'm not a good dancer. I'm going to have some more fragile pieces for my costume. I don't want to bust anything.

Sounds interesting, and I think I'm game for it :). I think Pirates will be seriously outnumbered due to Naruto's unceasing popularity, though.

One of the things that people forget was that the original term for pirate was privateer, which was hired by a company or state to sack and destroy other ships and/or collect goods from trade.
Ninjas were on the same ground that they worked for a lord and did the dirty tasks of assassination and sabotage.

While I don't think one couldn't live without the other some think that ninjas actually inspired the idea of privateers which became pirates. At least thats what some history books say...

Other than that its pretty much an internet thing that started a few years ago about which is cooler.

Actually, a privateer and pirate were the same thing but with a small, but important, difference. A pirate is the exact same thing as a privateer, but a privateer has legal papers giving them the right to plunder, steal, rob, shoot down, etc. A privateer who lost his papers o  had them revoked yet still did all that schpeal became labeled a pirate.

Thank you, History of Modern War class at UO. Wotwot.

May the K-cons king of Pirates be the Pirate judge? i mean I won a super sweet set of 3 buckets with alot of writing on them. and a chest full of other sweet anime stuff. I can't dance but I'd really like to be a judge.

What would being a captain entail? Would it be a three day con thing or a one day deal?

Maybe the Pirates do have a chance, then! Even if we have to Shanghai a few people into working for us! It's set in Portland, afterall, the Shanghai capitol of the Pacific Northwest? What do you all think the Portland underground was for, anyways? Mining? Bah! We had pirates over on the Pacific, too! Badass pirates that would trap drunken, unsuspecting men in cages under the town, steal their shoes, and then surround their cages with broken glass to dodge escape. :D

I'd still like to know what a captain includes. I'm pretty interested in being it for the Pirates side. I'll have to, err, brush up on my line dancing?

Depending on how long you want me to be a pirate, I'll cosplay as one. However, it will have to share time with Ganondorf, and the King of Evil isn't very good at sharing. (Sides, its difficult to dance in full armor, unless you do the roboto, and that seems more like a ninja thing anyways).

Captain Henry at Lloyd center has been alerted. He seems interested in raiding the convention.

I suggest Pirates go and visit his store in the mall at some point during the con. Especially if you want to touch up your costume a little.

XD I want a shirt like that. Okay, all you have to do is kidnap half of the Naruto cosplays, stick them in a Jedi cosplay, and BAM you control 1/3 of the Con!

It's right by the Ice Rink in the center of the bottom floor of Lloyd Center. You can't miss it. It looks like a massive cave with pirate goodies inside, hehe.

Oh, and if I actually find myself with the opportunity to fight for the bucket, I'll for sure be a pirate. Heck, my non-cosplay clothes will be (at least) pirate-inspired, heh.

I'm thinking about making a flag, it would be a Panda head with crossing cutlasses. the King Pirate Panda will make it so! maybe hang it up behind the Pirate dancers?
