Have any of you played Apples to Apples? We played a few rounds of it at the last post-staff-meeting party at Jamiche's place, and it was quite a lot of fun. As I like to describe it, Apples to Apples doesn't just give you inside jokes, it gets the players to create their
own inside jokes. ^^
However, I thought it would be even funnier for us if there were a "convention edition" made specifically for us con-goers. With that in mind, I started compiling a list of card ideas, getting as many suggestions from people at the party as I could muster. The game uses hundreds of cards, though, so there's PLENTY of room for more suggestions. Anything and everything goes, so please, drop an idea!
For those of you who haven't played Apples to Apples:Apples to Apples isn't really a board game, since there's no board. It isn't a card game, since there are no real gameplay mechanics to the cards. And it's not a trivia game, because you don't answer questions. It's still competitive, though, since you can keep score and win. Overall, I'd describe it as a "social game."
There are two types of cards: red cards and green cards. The green cards are each labeled with an adjective. Red cards are the ones you draw into your hand, and they contain a huge variety of words and phrases: people, places, objects, events, concepts, activities, and just about anything that could have an adjective attached to it. Everything from World War II to Beanie Babies is known to be in the game.
During each round, one person acts as judge, and draws a green card face-up on the table. Everybody else takes a look at the adjective on that green card, and chooses a red card from their hand and places it face-down on the table. From there, the judge looks through the red cards and picks a favorite (without knowing who played each card). Usually, you are going for the most "appropriate" match, but the judge can choose whatever they please. The winner gets that card. The first person to collect a certain predetermined number of green cards is the winner of the game.
GUIDELINES FOR CARD SUGGESTIONS:
1. Please read the list first and try your best not to make duplicate suggestions. It'd also be nice if you skim through the suggestions other people have already made.
2. Please also avoid listing too many suggestions from the same source (i.e. the entire cast of Naruto).
3. Cards do not have to pertain directly to anime. They only need to be something that would be
immediately recognizable to most convention goers. Generally, the game is more fun when there are only a handful of obscure references.
4. Just because something gets a card doesn't mean we are saying it is good or bad. It merely means that it is well-known. It's up to YOU to match red cards with descriptions during the game. This is what reveals the opinions and personality of the players!
5. Lastly, this may end up being a PG-13 panel, because there is the potential for "mature" card combinations, even though the individual cards usually won't be very racy. Opinions about this are welcome. However, remember that the original Apples to Apples isn't targeted specifically at kids, as there are cards such as "Sexy" (green card) and "The Holocaust" (red card) thrown into the mix.
Okay, now that I got the rules out of the way, here's the list. It's pretty long, but I hope to add many more to it, so please submit your proposed additions! (Note that I've organized the red cards by category, but that's mostly for reference)

....That's all at the time of this post! Also, I wanted to mention that I would appreciate it if someone would lend me a copy of Apples to Apples at some point. I don't own the game at the moment, and it would make for a good point of reference.
Additionally, I would be happy to listen to suggestions for ways to run this game. I will need to print up a very large number of cards in order to satisfy the needs of an entire panel, and there are several ways of going about that task.
