Kryolan Aquacolor Foundation - Full Body Makeup ?
« on: February 05, 2008, 04:07:05 pm »
I may be cosplaying someone who has completely blue skin, and I was wondering if anyone here has experience with full body makeup.  :)

I was looking at this Kryolan Aquacolor Foundation over at Cosworx.com
Has anyone tried this product?
and, is there a lot of foundation?

I'll mainly be covering my face, neck, arms, some leg and a few stray areas.

Thanks!
 ;D

I believe a friend of mine used that to make herself purple for her night elf cosplay.  I think it worked well but it kept fading on her I believe.  I'll have ask her about it.

TsukikoAiko used that stuff for her S-Ko costume and it looked awesome and worked well. I'm sure you could pm her for more answers because I have no idea about anything else.

Like ~boogiepop~ said it's what I used for S-ko and after using it it's the only thing I'll use for S-ko. After you spray on the fixer spray the only way you can get it off is by taking a shower. It didn't rub off on anything/anyone when I used it.
Just make sure it fully dries before you spray on the fixer (if you dont it'll streak and get on your costume) and I apply it with a brush and paint it on since it goes on more smoothly than fingers or a sponge.

A few questions...

- What is the best way to apply fixer to the face? With a spray, I'm afraid it'll get into eyes/etc.
- Do you use a normal paint brush to apply the foundation, or a makeup brush?
- Does one container go a long way, or should I buy 2 just in case?

Thanks ♥

As for the face, just closing your eyes and holding your breath if your worried about fumes. It doesn't smell bad and it dries so quickly that I just spray wait a few seconds and open my eyes.
I use a makeup brush like you would for powder or blush. I'm sure a paint brush would work too though.
One container of the 2.5 oz size will go a looong way. I painted myself twice and I don't even think 1/4 of it was gone.

A few more questions...

- Is it alright to eat while the foundation is on our face/lips?
- How do you go about washing hands?
- Is it safe to get in the eyes while trying to wash out/apply?

It is fine to eat with it on just like any other makeup and what I did for my hands was touch up after washing them. Doesn't take too long and it's easy enough to do almost anywhere. As far as applying and showering after I didn't have any problems and I wasn't trying to be careful. Of course if it can be avoided you don't want it in your eyes, but it shouldn't hurt as after all it is still a foundation, just in a ton of crazy colors.

Wow, this is so neat! Ya both have solved a problem I was gonna have with a future cosplay of mine! (the character I wanna do is like, a super brown tan, and I'm glow-in-the-dark white). When I looked at the color chart for Kryolan there's a color that I'm pretty sure is perfect! =D

So, I just wanted to say thank you! It's always nice to have a problem solved suuuper early. XD

Has any one ever used makeup?

I'm planning on using some for this Kcon, and from what I've used it works pretty well. I do need a sealant, though. >> Just wondering if anyone else has used it. ^^

Mehron works too, but not as well as it tends to crack even with fixer and more people have been known to have allergic reactions to it than with Kryolan (myself included) If it works for you though then go for it!

I'd go ahead and get the 4 oz. That way you're sure to have enough.

i think something important that i think no one else has mentioned here, is something about the brush application.  Brush application works very well IF you have the right kind of brush! you really need something that ha very soft bristles, the stiffer the brush the more likely you are to get streaks and you really want to avoid that (as well as avoiding going over the paint twice, this can also cause streaking especially if the paint has been allowed to dry a bit).

i've used krylon a few times;
here you can see some slight streaking, darker colors are also more prone to this, also i let my sister put on her own makeup but i think that the white was covering well http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/pinkrandomattack/l_abd2158283c9050a6a0651b5777dcc72.jpg
heres another silly picture from a couple years ago.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/pinkrandomattack/hkoscratch.jpg
another thing i think i should mention is that the kryolan stuff does NOT itch the same way you might think of face paints as doing (you know like at the fair when you were 8 and you got that wicked unicorn painted on your cheek? only to scratch the crap out of it within the hour) which is really nice, it kinda actually turns into a powder after it drys on your face.

another thing, everyone should love the varying uses of aqua net hairspray.  you CAN use this as a fix on your makeup (keep your eyes closed) and its only about 1-2 bucks a can....spray lightly.

I just received the Kyrolan foundation in the mail.

Also, the fixer has been discontinued for some reason. There is only Kryolan Anti-Shine Powder, which I'm guessing it completely different.

pinkrandomattack, where is aqua net hairspray available?

The test run looks great! As far as the fixer spray I believe Cosworx is no longer going to sell Aquacolor so the next place to check is Dani's Cosplay Supplies before ordering directly from Kryolan or specialty stores. Aquanet can be found at pretty much any grocery store. I personally don't use it for anything but hairspray, but if it works go for it.

No problem. I know that I'll end up having to get more makeup from one of those places since I'm pretty sure my S-ko cosplay isn't going away for a while. Let us all know how the aquanet works out since it's anywhere from $1-3 a can depending on where you get it and if it's on sale or not.
