Kumoricon Lite - Mini convention!
« on: March 20, 2008, 07:28:48 pm »
Hey all!
I picked up a flier for the Kumoricon Lite event on May 10th at the Dark Horse event a week or so ago.

It states that the hours are from noon - 9 p.m. at Portland State University's Smith Memorial Union. Check in is room 296.

It is in cooperation with Portland State Anime Club and Random Select.

Activities include anime viewing, gaming, karaoke, manga library and a raffel for Kcon badge!
FREE ADMISSION!

So who's going?

Antares, you beat me to it :P

I will make another post when we have more information about the raffle (donate a manga to our library, get a ticket for the raffle), but for now - bring a friend and come check it out, admission is free so it's a perfect time to show people what we're all about :)  Cosplay is encouraged, of course... (and maybe we can even swing a prize or two)

It's a similar event... the PSU anime and gaming club are providing the space, and we are providing equipment/content for it.

So will there be another minicon event besides this one? Cuz I don't know if I can make it to this one. ;o;

Currently, this is the only minicon event like this planned (we are looking at having another dance event in July, and will post more info when we have it).  If we get the opportunity for another event, we will certainly look into it. :)

Will the basement be open?  Or are we just segregated to a single room.

I think it'd be fun to have cosplay bowling at this event :D  Also they have some gaming already set up in the basement rockband pool tables and the like.

As far as I know there is not any karaoke at Farmer's Market...and the karaoke room will probably be indoors.

That was partly my fault, and partly the fault of the outgoing president. When she graduated, the president of the club didn't chose anybody to succeed her, so my friends and I were called on at the last minute to become club leadership. The school sprung a lot of paperwork on us and had us go to a student leadership seminar, and then cut us loose. We were not aware that we had a table for party in the park until the day before. I had planned to have a laptop playing anime on the table, and fliers (which we now have). But they refused to give us power for the computer. We now have fliers, and this semester will see some changes in how we do things here.

but Like no info of when they met up or what they do
no offense, but aren't those questions the reason we had people at the booth?

The amount of apathy in the club right now scares me. When I ask what people want to do besides watching anime, nobody has any suggestions. I am not a creative man, and I get stressed out on even my best days, but I am going to try to do more to make this club better, and would appreciate suggestions.

Roleplay

prop makeing lessons or sessions if you already can.

random story makeing (each person adds to the story with daialoge and there is one narrator and the rest have characters ((they choose or you assign)) and you let them do the convo while narrator sets the scean.)

anime kareoke

I have many more but I hate haveing to stay put and watch anime because I do that at home. I would rather have FUN.

The event runs for 9 hours (from noon to 9pm), and each "event" has it's own room, so they will run for the entirety of it.  There will be plenty to do, and enough time to enjoy it :)

Hey, what will be the policy on props there? Obviously, the 'no live-steel' rule will apply, but is there a size limit besides the fact that it can't block traffic?

Hmm....I got this from their site....It seems like an umbrella is okay. The only thing I would be worried about is martial arts staffs....And any 'club-like' thing. But, since most of us have a pretty good sense of judgement....If you want the full thing it's here: http://www.psu.edu/dept/police/weapons.html

" The possession, carrying, or use of any weapon, ammunition, or explosive by any person is prohibited on all University property except by authorized law enforcement officers and other persons specifically authorized by the University. No person shall possess, carry, or use any fireworks on University property, except for those persons authorized by University and local governments to discharge such fireworks as part of a public display. Paintball guns and paintball markers may only be used on the property of the University in connection with authorized University activities and only at approved locations. Any University student or employee who violates these prohibitions shall be subject to discipline in accordance with regular University procedures, which may include suspension or dismissal from the University. Visitors to the University will be subject to appropriate trespass actions for failure to comply with these regulations. Further, if possession or use of a weapon, fireworks or paintball device is in violation of the law, it will be referred to University Police or other proper law enforcement authorities.

Definitions:
A weapon is any instrument or implement which is capable of inflicting serious bodily injury, and shall include but not be limited to:
Any rifle, shotgun, handgun, machine gun, or other firearm, or antique firearms suitable for use; any airgun, spring gun, B-B gun, or implement that is not a firearm, which propels a pellet of any kind with a force that can reasonably be expected to cause bodily harm; any starter pistol, flare gun, tranquilizer gun, stun gun, zip gun, spear gun, dart gun, sling shot; or ammunition of any type for weapons governed by these regulations.
Any knife with a blade larger than that of a folding pocket knife; dagger; razor or other cutting instrument, the blade of which is exposed in an automatic way by switch, push-button, spring mechanism, or otherwise.
