Against the grain- cosplaying obscure characters
« on: April 02, 2008, 11:09:28 pm »
Well, some of us are cosplaying names that aren't as big as Naruto, Zatch, or L Lawliet. Let's talk about it here.

Me, I have a one-off lined up, Alex Trebel, which is a caricature of Alex Trebek, seen on the sketch comedy show SCTV.

A proud attendee of Kumoricon and SakuraCon.

One of these days I'm going to cosplay Kaede from Pokemon. But she was in two chapters of a very obscure manga. One of them she was the lead character in, but it was a manga with an ensemble cast so after that she faded back into obscurity (the other story she was in, she only had about a page and it was really more of a cameo). And NO ONE WILL KNOW WHO I AM. Everyone will think I'm a generic Rocket no matter how well I make the costume.

My very first cosplay was Seta from Love Hina.  Lots of people thought I was a doctor from EVA except for the girls who cosplayed as other Love Hina characters.

Finally made up my mind about going to kumoricon, which was keeping me from posting here lol. I'm going to be the medicine seller from Mononoke, as I was at Sakuracon this year (And unfortunately very much ignored ._. )

Hopefully this con will be better XD; Good luck to other obscure cosplay people!

This is pathetic....We're cracking up over a sadistic BIRD...

My GF and I went as Roux and Firielle from Good witch of the west at Sakuracon this year and not one single person recognized us.
And now I'm a catgirl?

The voice of the one I love
was all I could hear as I lay broken in the darkness
My own voice faltered
My wings no longer had the strength to fly

! So that is why you had the blue makeup! Also explains why you'd want me to do Arpegius.  Who are you cosplaying as?

Im going as young Byakuya. He's only been in one chapter of the Manga ( thus far) I doubt anyone will know who I am since its' just a generic Japanese outfit.

Hehe I REALLY hope I run into that elitist jerk on the SC forums who was whining about a lack of obscure characters and said that he would pay peopel for really obscure costumes. I hope I run into him, and when he compliments me on my obscurity ill say " ha! Im from Bleach Bi-yatch!

I'm trying to decide on either a character from Ar Tonelico series or Sekirei.  I really like to do Ar Tonelico, but it looks much more difficult.........

If you cosplayed ANYONE from Ar Tonelico, it would make me happy. Those costumes are so amazing! But it's really not a very popular game, which makes me sad. ;_; I was thinking about making a Shinobi Misha costume, but not for kumori....not enough time between making two costumes, school, and very soon, work.

an Ar Tonelico will be a long term cosplay if I dun see it possible in making in time for kumoricon.  My avatar(one of the heroines from the sequel) is my current first pick on who I would do, but its would be a major challenge to make.

Note: this is kurimono from sakura con btw.

Some of my friends are going to be Ness, Jeff, and Paula form Earthbound/Super Smash Bros, and they're doing a Mario group where one of them will be Prince Peasley (who as far as I can find, has only been done once or twice before...). ^^

based on what I read, Luca from mother 3 has no relation to Ness or Paula.  Mother 3 is suppose to take place in another time period from what I heard.

So, as for days, the my Earthbound/Mario friends are gonna be those groups on the first two days, cuz one of the members will be in another group on the last day. So if the photoshoot were they last day, they wouldn't be able to make it in either of their cosplays. Just to help with the planning a little. ^^

I will ask my younger brother, it might be a bit of a spoiler (if so gomen!) he has downloaded translations, tho he knows some people who are working on a patch to make the game in english for the ds, tho they say they will stop if nintendo anouces plans releasing the game in the US (i wish)  it is a very sad game

during game play in mother 3  at one point lucas's grandfather Nipolite ,gives him the the Badge of Courage..
Nipolite" You're a good son.
Ah. Here. Your father gave me this to give to you in case you
came here. It's a good luck charm that he has cherished since he
            was a boy."

**You got the Badge of Courage**....

Then at one point in the game you need to fly by using a bird cage & ..this happens
r. Saturn: sHiNe ThE sHiNiNg ThInG.

"You gave the Badge of Courage to Mr. Saturn."

Mr. Saturn: i'Ll GiVe It BaCk wHeN iT sHiNeS. iT'lL sPaRkLe. tHe bIrD

 later he re-finds you..&
r. Saturn: iF yOu pOlIsH iT, It ShInEs. dOn'T wOrRy. I'lL gIvE iT tO YoU.

"The Badge of Courage was really the Franklin Badge."

Mr. Saturn: sO lOnG AnD gOoDbYe...
& as for the name changes.. when the world went to hell in a handbasket, a group of people took a white ship & live, they found a Island.. & they decide that for them to live in peace & not to make the same errors like in the past..  they used the Hummingbird's Egg to seal their memories..& be at peace.. then porkey came.. ..  & Hinawa..even tho she died.. she still contacts her son & her father.. just like paula.. even at the end..the Franklin Badge played its part..

My group's cosplaying Juuni Kokki, which I daresay counts as obscure.  Youko, Kyou-ou, Kyouki, and myself as Risai -- I think I win as most minor character of the bunch, though if we're talking the anime, not by too much.

Air Gear's getting pretty big, but I'm working on Nue from it, who is at least comparatively obscure.  That's gotta count for something.

I think my most obscure existing cosplay is Okita from Peacemaker, which is only recognisable as what it is due to the Saizo I tend to keep on my head.  Got recognised an awful lot at Fanime this year, though, so go figure. :3
