Rockin' out in the 1980s!
« on: April 03, 2008, 11:37:26 pm »
Well, many of my friends have seen me as a guy who is just crazy about the 1980s! Now, I must ask, "What about you guys?" What do you like about this crazy decade?

I miss being a kid back then (I was born in 1977) and the wide eyed amazement I had for the world.

Well, I know Kahlan-gf will have a lot to say about this subject, as she adores the 80's, but as for me, I enjoyed the music (in retrospect of course; I was born in '87). The Cure, Furniture, Psychadelic Furs, Prince, Michael Jackson, and all of new wave in general. It was one of the foundations of modern goth/industrial, and the scene would be nowhere without what happened in the 80's. ^_^

I do not like 80's music at all, I prefer classic rock from the 70's. Some is ok but most of it was horrible.

I liked the punk rock of the early eighties, especially in SoCa, I always enjoyed a good pit.  And the fashions!  I was a plaid on plaid kind of guy.

Of course, this was back in the day, and I’m a bit older than most…

Synth-pop reigned i the 1980's, so I love the music. Also, a great era for hard rock too...

And, the 1980's also gave birth to the NES, one of the best game systems ever as well as Back to the Future, one of the best trilogy of films ever!

They have 80's dancing every Friday evening in Lola's Room at the Crystal Ballroom.  It is really fun!! It is 21+ but they just make it non-smoking

This thread should probably go in the spam folder. >_>
Too bad I'm not a mod anymore... <_<

I like the colors. Bright colors in hair and clothes was cool and you didn't have to deal with the weird technicolor pastels of the "color tv" era that came before. You also had people starting to embrace the absence of color and dressing in all black with a little white here and there.

The best part of the 80s was that the world wasn't out of ideas yet so people would be able to make money doing just about ANYTHING. It was like the e-business craze before the dotcom bubble burst, only with toys, music, tv, food, fashion...

Don't forget Jem and the holograms! would not be a proper 80's nostalgia list without them!

My best friend and I used to watch that as well as the Barbie show on saturday morning.  Well Barbie was right after the GI Joe show and one saturday morning, the network accidently switched the sound reels.  So imagine GI JOE going on and you hear "Let's go shopping" and Barbie going on with stuff like "Let's go men, haul out!"

I miss being a kid ^^

I was only born in 88... lol but my sister was a teenager back then and since I used to really look up to her, it sort of gave me a huge 80's fetish that has stayed with me ever since xD

Born in '80, so I grew up on all this stuff.

I remember when I got my NES...although I was a latecomer and it was in the 90s...

Come to think of it, even though my favorite band, Oingo Boingo, was a hallmark of the 80s scene, I didn't get into them until '93.

Man, I live retroactively, don't I?
