I'm new to this whole thing!!!
« on: April 06, 2008, 11:50:15 am »
Anyone who would like to enjoy Manga and Anime with me... message me.

I'm new to this "community"... I just jumped out of the closet with my extreme liking of both Anime and more recently, Manga. I'd love suggestions on what I should broaden my horizons on. New titles, must-reads, classics, etc.

I'm open to just chat, befriend, and share with people in my area. I live in Vancouver, Washington.

Welcome! I have been watching anime for about 5 years now so if you need help or suggestions, let me know. What anime have you seen or what style do you like?

Hello and welcome to the anime community.

Let's see....
Let's start with some of the classics as suggestions:
- Cowboy Bebop
- Trigun
- Sailor Moon
- Serial Experiment Lain
- FLCL (Furi Kuri)

Oh, try DramaCon.  I think that would be a good suggestion for a manga.

Hey and welcome!

I don't watch that much anime. There. I said it. But I do watch some stuff when I have time (like Honey and clover, Initial D, etc) and I follow the Naruto manga religiously lol. And I love me some video games!

I would say my manga reading and anime watching has slowed down a little bit.  I think when I have a better budget my library will grow again.  Though I'm finding anime on demand with comcast to be fun.

I don't watch that much anime these days as well, don't feel bad :P No time <.<

My top 10 in no particular order:
Fullmetal Alchemist (+movie & ovas)
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (+movie)
Mahoromatic (both seasons + ovas)
Full Metal Panic! (all three count as one :P)
Ichigo Mashimaro (Strawberry Marshmellow in english)
Last Exile
Paprika
5 Centimeters Per Second
Eureka Seven
Love Hina (both "seasons" + ovas

There are so many others I have seen and have loved..it's really hard to suggest only a few. <.<

Here's the list of everything I have seen, lulz: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Trumby

Greetings and welcome!

Yeah, I echo what Laurifer said. I don't have the money or time to take in a ton of anime or manga like some people, but the stuff I do have I enjoy regularly. Some anime I could recommend would be: Azumanga Daioh, Fullmetal Alchemist, DNAngel, Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Claymore (though it is only online in subs at the moment), and Wolf's Rain.

As for manga, Dramacon is a great starting point. It is short, at only three volumes, but it is the perfect exposure to the world of manga and con culture.

You live in Vancouver? Cool, I'm just moving out of Vancouver myself. :)

If you don't mind my asking, how old are you, and what kinds of anime do you enjoy?

I'm just interested to know what draws a new fan in, how, and when. Personally, I got into anime when I was a senior in high school, thanks to a combination of interests, particularly video games (once I was old enough to realize where my favorites came from >.>; ). I didn't start going to conventions until I was 20, but that was before Kumori Con existed, so proximity was definitely a factor there. :P

No one has mentioned "Jungle wa itsumo hare nochi guu?" er what's it now... "Hare + Guu" ?

Yeah, that.

Saber Marionetter J, Again, J->X
Moyashimon
Oran Host club
Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi
Azumanga Daioh
Lovely Complex (slice of life love-love anime that doesn't have a tsundere main character!)
Pani Poni Dash
Since FLCL has been mentioned, see "Dead Leaves" too.
Nana.

For the record, here are my must-sees:

Azumanga Daiyoh (offbeat high school comedy, minus the boys)
Fruits Basket (modern day girly drama/comedy)
Trigun (sci-fi western)
Slayers (medieval fantasy parody)
Cardcaptor Sakura (classic magical girl - but only watch the subtitled, DVD version)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (modern-day sci-fi parody - better if you see a variety of other anime first)
Genshiken (realistic comedy about otaku college life, also funnier if you see other anime first)

Detailed genre descriptions after each title. Basically, if you like that genre (or something similar to that genre), I'm pretty darn sure you'll like the series I listed. :) I made sure not to include anything without widespread appeal.
