What's up with Rockband?
« on: May 08, 2008, 04:38:40 pm »
I don't know if it's just me, and if I'm playing it too much.
But after I play for about an hour, I take a break for about 20 minutes to give my fingers and arms a rest.
Whenever I close my eyes for whatever reason, I see the note stream appear, like it's somehow imbedded in my eyes for the next couple hours.
It's only when I close my eyes, however.

Does that happen to anyone else?

Well, while I have never played Rock Band, I can relate to what you are describing. I don't know how Rock Band's screen looks, is it bright note streams on a darker background? If so, then that explains a lot. It's just like if you look at the sun for too long, you will get the sunspot on your vision, and when you close your eyes, it will show up like a negative. Any source of light, magnified by a dark background, will leave some impression on your sight if looked at long enough. It happens all the time with me too, but with other things (lights, the sun, Guitar Hero, etc.).

That might have something to do with it! But it lasts for a while, even after I quit playing for over an hour.
It does have a dark background, and the notes are bright. Maybe my eyesight just likes to hold onto images for a longer amount of time.

I know if I play rockband for an extended period of time then when I stop everything I look at looks like it is moving up. Like if I would be looking at a book it kind of looks like the book is slowly moving up. I'm sure it's because my eyes are really looking down making it appear to be moving up.

When I play Guitar Hero for too long, I see little whirlpools when I glance away from the screen...

Sometimes when I play guitar hero or rockband too late at night I tend to miss notes cos I'm too slow and tired to register what's going on :P

Tetris is the death of me. I play for a couple hours at a time, sometimes online, but after I stop, I feel like stacking blocks or pillows. Reading is impossible, too ^^;;;;

I get that whenever I play DDR for a long time.  I close my eyes and see the arrows go by.
The funny part is trying to do the steps when that happens.

This is normal. After your eyes and mind adjust to a certain kind of movement and input they take awhile to go back to normal. It happens to people who play guitar hero as well.

Heck back in the day I had that problem with starfox. I'd try to go to be and end up jerking my head up and down trying to "navigate" past invisible barriers.

You do anything long enough it's going to get into your head.

I constantly see dudes with ridiculously huge swords attacking arrows, with my eyes open and closed.

Too much monster hunter and DDR lol.

Hmmm....
@superjaz
I wonder... If I stare at the DDR dancing Gir long enough, will I be able to see him if I close my eyes too?

O yes. That is EXACTLY what happens to me.
I'm the usually drummer in my house (and sometimes the singer) but I'm ultimately just better at every position in my house so I can do any of them.
I just sometimes close my eyes too and I pick up the sticks and see a line of them coming and hit air to the notes.
You are not alone! we all do weird crap! XD

Subliminal messaging.
It drills the images into your head.
The company wants you to keep playing their game.

So I just played Rock Band for the first time this weekend and it was really fun; didn't think I'd catch on as quickly as I was able to. I think I like singing or drumming the best. ^_^ Good times.

I took my wireless guitar back to Fred Meyers to have them check it out on the display Xbox, since it wasn't working for mine.
It worked fine, which made me feel like a complete newb.
I told the guy it wasn't working correctly for my Xbox, and it STILL isn't.
I took it back to Steven's to try it again, and even tried moving the Xbox into another room in case it had 'bad signal' or whatever.
I think there might be something wrong with my 360, if that's the case.

It works just fine. Even the wireless controller is able to connect.
It's just the wireless guitar that fails. ~ ~

Did the guitar come with the game, or did you buy one sold separately? It might be for the appropriate console, but some brands just plain suck and don't know how to configure theyr own products.

Hmmm... I hate wirless.
When I first got both of my DDR pads the wirleless one stopped working out of nowhere and so we took it back.
Our wirless guitar for rockband works just fine though, I wonder what's wrong with yours O_o

I bought the guitar seperately from the game so I could have all four instruments.
I already know Harmonix's instruments are faulty, but jeez, I didn't think they were THIS bad.
Or maybe it really is my 360, which, is worse then a faulty Rockband guitar.

for our rockband we only have the one guitar that we got from the box, and our guitar hero one is at my brothers house, so we haven't tried using a seperate one.
I hope the other guitar works when we get it back, It sounds like it isn't going to O.O
