American Death Note movie D:

Well, what do you think? Good idea, bad idea? Would you even go? Who would you cast as who?

I personally think that the world will now end and the Universe will be wiped up with a giant handkerchief. That's how annoyingly bizarre this will be.

I'm definitely game for it, mainly because that list of films (The Grudge being my favorite) boasts quite a few that I really enjoyed. So I know they are capable of at least making a decent film from an original. Good or bad? I think it could be really good, but who knows. The only thing that kinda irks me is the writing team they have. Who immediately thinks of Japanese horror/weird/shinigami stuff when they think of CW? Pulling writers who are working on that network for a project like this is rather odd to me, but.....who knows? Could be a good move. I'll definitely see it, if it ends up being made. There's no question there.

*Oh yeah, and as for casting, there is someone in my head who I saw recently in a movie trailer and thought, "they would make a perfect Light/Kira!", and now I can't for the life of me remember who they were. But, besides that person, I would totally case "Peter" from Narnia as Light. He looks just like him, an english version anyway.

Wait, so this will be different than the current live action movies that are out?  Hmm I dunno, after seeing the current first movie dubbed in the theater, I think having an american version might like lose some of the story.  Hopefully they make it seriously and not like glitzy hollywood special effects and then it should be decent

When I heard about this I had mixed emotions. I'm excited, yet I don't want them to screw it up. But if they cast good people, (not trying to be racist at all, but I didn't like the idea of the whole cast being Asain in the first place) I think it could be cool. And they're going to need to find someone good to replace Ken'ichi Matsuyama as L.

LOL!

"You didn't get your head in the GAME! Now you die!"
The horror, the funky horror.

I can think of plenty of pretty boys for Kira but who cares about him? He's like a cookie cutter when it comes to looks. They'd just have to have on that can turn sinister. L is what it's all about! I have no friggin clue who'd play L!

I do believe that Ryuk would end up with a Brooklyn accent and Misa would either be a valley girl or have a slightly southern accent.

Zach Braff would have to Matsuda before I even so much as glanced at it.

But yes, Ryuk with a Brooklyn accent. That would be so amazingly burl that it wouldn't even be funny.

I love the idea of Ryuk with a Brooklyn accent, the number one person that comes to mind for that (That is totally getting my hopes up now, ridiculously so) is Peter Steele, the vocalist of Type O Negative. He's got such a thick, monstrous, burly Brooklyn voice, it would be perfect.

O_O Why? Whyyyyyy? The whole Zac Effron & Miley Cyrus thing would be funny if it wasn't so scary that Zac looks like Kira. I just can't imagine Disney, nor the teen's agents, allowing them to perform in such a dark film. It'd be treading down the path of Lohan. XP

Also, I am rather nervous of an American Death Note movie in general. ^.^;

In your guy's opinions, how was the live action Death Note (japanese one)? I never got to see it. ;_;

I only saw the second one because it was the closest to the original anime in terms of storyline. It was still pretty different, and I don't watch very many live action movies so I don't really know how it compares with others....I thought it was pretty good *has a DN live action movie wall scroll hanging up* XD

Well, while I am still thinking on who I think would make a perfect Light, Misa, or L for the film, I have decided on the perfect Watari, heh. Michael Caine! I've seen him and liked him in more and more films, and it just struck me (with his newest role as Alfred in Dark Knight), he'd make a great Watari. ^_^ Probably won't happen, but I'm sold on him.

And I'll keep racking my brain trying to decide on the others.

If ANY Disney people get their hands on this movie, I can pretty much assume it will go to the dogs. Also, the six year olds that I'm trying not to step on as I walk through the theater. Well, let's not forget that Disney did take the helm of both Narnia and the more brutal and gruesome Pirates trilogy. Let's not forget they are capable of being serious and dark if needed.

Though I do agree they are not the ideal company for this movie. It's a pretty ludicrous idea to begin with to think that Disney would have anything to do with Death Note; it's just not their area.

Well, Ryuk is cute in a menacing and ominous way. You can't look at an apple-deprived, pretzel-twisted Ryuk and not think "awww, that's funny/cute", lol, and his sense of humor is pretty cute too.

But then again, what I call cute many others may call unnerving, haha.

Don't worry, I thought the giant wriggling mass of tentacles that was the Ogdru Jahad was pretty cute. I'd want a pet Sammaiel, too!

In the first movie, Ryuk does a great facevault kinda thing when Light says no apples... I hope they do something great like that.

But I have a feeling the "menacing and ominous" bit would be greatly reduced.

As much as Efron has the look down for the part, I doubt he would be in the movie. Plus, if hypothetically speaking he was picked to play Light, we dont know the budget of the film. So maybe if the director wanted Efron for the part, if their budget wasnt big enough to pay for the very famous (and pricey) Efron, then it wouldnt become possible.
