Food at the con

Well, I wanted to ask you KC goers, about the food at the con. What choices do I have, besides Applebee's?

The Lloyd Center mall actually has a wide variety of foods available during the day and most of the evening, there are a few Sushi places near by, a subway, a burgerking/mcdonalds (I can't remember which), a KFC and a few other places to go eat. Just so you know Tom puts a list of places and a map of how to get to them in the con book which you will receive in your con swag bag. There are plenty of places to hit up if you are hungry that are less expensive than Applebees. SO have no fear you will be fed. Expect long waits for sushi though.

I want to add one thing: Will there be a coffee vending machine at the Doubletree? I should find a cup of hot cocoa somewhere....... man, that Simpsons movie makes me want one!

Tom mentioned that there are some good Thai and Chinese food places off of Weidler. I think you are willing to go up a few blocks, it's worth exploring your options and I think your gut will thank you!

For coffee, the hotel has it's own little Barrista in the lobby.
Otherwise you'll have to go to the Starbucks in the Mall or the nameless cafe next door to Quiznos. There's plenty of other coffee shops in the area but they're all further.

They are on my map though.

Once again Tom, you never fail to deliver. =3

I love all the food options that are available due to the hotel location. Being so close to Lloyd Center opens up multiple food options, and that's not even counting the surrounding restaurants and such.

I 100% seriously recommend Burgerville. I worked at one for two years and can personally vouch for the quality of their food. Also, if the Walla Walla onion rings are in season, they are amazing. Back when I worked there (almost 3 years ago) we had to make them by hand every day. Good stuff.

Oh, definitely. I love Burgerville. I rarely get to to go there, but it is hands down my favorite fast food burger place. Nothing can compare, you can taste the quality in the food.

Depending on how close it is to the con I may try going out to eat there one of the nights.

This is the thing I love about this hotel.  There's tons of stuff within walking distance.   And if you want something a little different, you can hop the max to downtown and there's even more.

TONS of food within walking distence : ) i used to to to the mall all the time cause my friend skates there, the food court has a great selection, Mickydees, subway, a sushi place (i think), pizza, italian, ect... theres even an arcade and movie theater if you some how get bored O.o

but for breckie i recomend you bring simple things like cereal into the hotel room and eat while you get dressed, last year i comuted to the con and went to my friends room in the mourning, like early before things got going cause they all had to get dressed and so did i. if you manage to have time before the con gets going in the mourning you can check out places to eat but i still recomend just dinning in the room, easyer
returning with a vengeance to K con~

If nothing else, granola bars can be great for food on the go and covering several areas of a daily diet.

Yeah I think I am going to bring little portable snacks that you can eat on the go.....like poptarts and what not. Then if I get really hungry we can go across the street to the mall and get food ;D

I'm not sure about the DT but a lot of hotels provide free breakfast for the guests staying there. Does Double Tree do that?

I don't think so.  If they do, then they'll have some explaining to do for the extra charge I'm paying to have breakfasts included in my hotel fee!

Maybe your breakfasts are extra special? :D I guess I'll bring along some fruit if Double Tree won't provide breakfast.

Usually all hotels have some sort of food they offer to their guests. Its not much but fruit and some juice....they night not do it this weekend due to all the people that are going to be there.

WHERE CAN I GET SOME GOOD TEA? : (

you mean like really good? cause if you're really looking for something fancy you can always head either across the river (not really that far) to the Chinese gardens (which might be nice for a photo shoot if its not busy and you're that brave) which has a tao of tea in it, or then theres another tao on 30ish and belmont  also not all that far from the hotel, especially if you've got a car.

also just in general and if you are in the company of transportation and looking for some real meals (and not from that area of Portland...or Portland at all) genies on 11th and devision has excellent breakfast and lunch. as does broder on 26th-ish and clinton.

and most of all if youve never been to saburos, its damn near a sushi mecca. its not terribly close to the con, but if youre from out of town its definitely worth the trip into sellwood for a little chilltime and a lot of sushi.

Bringing your own food is not a problem, it'll help cut down on costs and give you more money for the vendor hall that way.

There's this sandwich place that's close by to the Con which is VERY good.  I go there regularly every weekend, and I'm very glad that Kumori is back in Downtown Portland once again.

Fords on Fifth is the name of the place, and I'll be going with a bunch of my friends.  If anyone feels like tagging along and trying it out, let PM me or let me know!  The place is one of those easily missed places if you just hang out around the immediate vicinity of the con, and Fords is one of those places I always suggest.

Here's some info about the restaurant: http://cityguide.aol.com/portland/restaurants/fords-on-5th/v-192004
