Art of Japanese animation exhibition in Downtown Portland
« on: July 30, 2008, 01:22:07 pm »
Moshi Moshi Gallery will be presenting "The art of Japanese animation" from August 7th - September 3rd - with the opening reception from 6pm-9pm on Thursday August 7th. I have been thinking of curating this exhibition for a while as this is often overlooked as art and totally deserves some attention in a gallery format. There will be some fancy stuff on display (Studio Ghibli, Osamu Tezuka, etc.) from the 1970's to the current decade. Please make it to the opening exhibition (in costume if you like!) or if it is too far away then please come by during KumoriCon weekend. Keep an eye on moshi-moshi.com for more details.

It definitely could make for a fun and educational forumster event. Does anyone think they would actually have down time during the Con weekend to visit it, or should a meetup be in August, before the con? I think I'd probably be too busy during the Con to go, or I'd probably just plumb forget all about it in the craziness of everything.

I think it should be before the con. I already have a lot of plans during the con and I don't think I want to leave the hotel for long periods of time (just once to go ice skating)

I agree with that. Whatever date people decide on, I'd be fine with most likely. I really don't have much going on, unfortunately, haha. As long as it isn't sweltering out, I'd be fine with going downtown.

Sweet, Gegege No Kitaro! I just learned about that today, and it looks super cute! That's a great collection of art to be featured. ^_^

Yo,

The good people at Moshi Moshi are teaming with Kumoricon and we have linked to their site from our main page here: http://www.kumoricon.org/

Anyone want to get together on Thursday night for their opening show?

Or leading up to the con (I see nikkiolie mentioned the 10th)? I agree, at-con may be pretty hectic, but can you imagine a bunch of cosplayers busing it over to Downtown? Awesome (anyone know bus route from Doubletree to Burnside?)  :D

(also, this thread may be moved to the Meetup forum)

That would be an entertaining sight, haha. I just know, though, for me, I only have a couple hours of down time (not sleeping time) a day during the con, and I really need that down time, heh. I don't think I could spend it on a bus, but who knows? If the weather isn't too punishing outside (i.e. hot and gross), I could be up for making a bus trip. I can't really decide anything until I know the schedule though.

I'm planning on going tomorrow no matter what :D My decision is in cosplay or not. The only costume I have ready is my PJ Bridget and if I wear that I don't wanna be the only cosplayer there...any one else dressing up?

I'm cosplaying!

See you kids there!

Also, for those of you wondering how to get there on the bus, you can take the #20 to Powell's and walk East about half a block, or you can take the streetcar to Powell's and do the same.

I'd be interested in going to this if we wanted to on Sunday, during the Pre-Con Meet. It'd be a good time for me anyway.
