Limited time to be at con ><
« on: August 28, 2008, 04:07:51 pm »
If i do come to con... it will be for a few select hours and i will have a non-escapable parent possie ><.

Should i even take the effort to go in cosplay? it seems kinda pointless, and I could save my costume of a different con or next year.
I just wonder what i should do  :-[

Well if it is a costume that requires a lot of hassle, I'd say just save it. If you are already going to be uncomfortable with your parent posse, there's no point in making it potentially worse for yourself.

Either way, I'm sorry to hear of the bad turn of events. Hope things work out better for you this year, or next year.

well that's lame, the link duo was cool at the picnic. you might try and come and at least have your parents get used to going to cons? Dunno, hope to see you around though

Inescapable parent posse... yikes. I already commented earlier, but you never know. Maybe your parents will loosen up and let you kind of go on your own. Is there like a cousin you wouldn't mind going with that's older? What about the parental release slip?

I don't blame you for not wanting to cosplay in front of the folks. My mom asked me to dress up so she can get photos before I leave, and I'm kinda hesitant about it. I'm thrilled that she wants to since she's a little less understanding than my dad on the matter, but its still embarrassing.

Con goers are one thing, but folks are a different beast. It's up to you, Lo. We won't judge you either way. For sure. We'd all love to see you there, though. Maybe you can wow your folks since I'm sure so many people will want to take your picture.

I hope you can come. it wont be the same without you. Even if your parents are around you would still have a lot of fun. I mean there is so much to look at and your costumes look so good.

Its part of the cosplay contest. You don't have to have a skit if you don't want but you can just walk onto stage and have the judges judge your costume.

hint: if your dealing with overly protective parents, seek out the glomp circle and join in. :) nothing scares parents away faster then a big circle of cosplayers hugging

Neko_Chan had this problem in 2005, a bunch of paranoid parents with "their girls going into the BIG CITY"

There's thousands of people around with staff all over, it's not a big deal.
Grrr... dumb parents.

There are people calling and demanding refunds because they decided their kid would be doing something else this weekend.
Or even better, they didn't even know what the kid bought tickets for with their credit card!

I hope your parents get here and the psychic energy of the convention makes them chill out and let you enjoy the con while they got to the mall..... for three days...

Well, depending on your parents, having random, unknown strangers hug their daughter might end up being a bad thing.
I would keep low for the first day to see if they'll give you the "ok" and then do what you want the following days :) Explain to them that any adult thing is ID checked for 18+ and also about all the yojimbo walking around. Security is usually found everywhere in my experience. Plus, if someone's giving you crap, nothing like a bunch of pumped-up fangirls and fanboys to kick some ass and take some names.

If it makes your mother feel better, there are many yojimbo around that way we can look after your safety.
