Mechanized Propulsion Systems Panel
« on: May 05, 2004, 08:18:34 am »
Howdy all,

I'm Earle, acting Project Coordinator for MPS. We are the 'mech guys' building the world's first mech  =)

We would like to panel at Kumoricon this year, so I would like to see how much interest there is in having MPS panel. Since we just drove almost 24 hours each way from Seattle, I'm going to have a hard time selling another con appearance to the Team. I would much appreciate anyone posting interest here, that I can use as support when I pitch our next road trip plan to the team. I can promise some swag, and a heck of a presentation.

Thank you!

Good news.

Unofficially, I have three other confirmed panelists besides myself. You guys can thank the KumoriCon Convention Chair for staying on top of this, and dealing with this panel with all manner of expediency and professionalism.

On to the panel.

In my opinion, our panel at SakuraCon this year really sucked. For KumoriCon, expect to have whatever we polished up for Anime Expo, as well as anything else we throw in last minute. Although we will have less panelists, I expect we will still be presenting the important stuff already prepared for AX. Expect to see 3 to 5 demo welded 10:1 or 12:1 scale torso frametypes, a demonstration of our motion capture hardware, and more mind bogglingly complex differential equations and other important sounding math from our balance software.

Since there's been a healthy response, anything else we should cover? Post a response here or email me directly. After 4 years of conventions, I'm sure there is important stuff we have routinely left out. Can't see the forest for the trees  >=(

I for one would be interested a little in the business model behind the whole project.
I definately am glad that we worked out the panel so that it's mutually benificial.  I'll be bugging our Programming Director to get more information up about the panel itself on the site.  Perhaps with all the military bases nearby you might find some able-bodied test pilots.

Does Anime Evolution have a site and does someone have a link? I'd like to check it out. I'll be coming by your Panel at Kumoricon. Can't wait.

OOh!  I smell contest potential!

Have fun with it, guys!  Make sure you let people know the max size that will fit!

Suggestions:  A drawing (boring, but it gets the job done!)
Have people write or draw something that shows why they have always wanted to pilot a mech!  In our history section, you could post the winning entries and pictures of them!

Just have us run past your entry if you go with something subjective...judges decision is final, not responsible for injuries...that kind of thing.  We could also promote the contest in advance in your on-line panel description.

If you were willing to stay around longer and have more people try them out, you could charge a certain amout of money per test and have the money go to a designated charity.  (I'll bring this up at the con meeting tomorrow, but I'd suggest a local food bank, make a wish, or my first choice, The Penny Arcade Toys for Hospitals Charity now that it has gone nation wide!)

probably not at kumoricon, but some time you should have a full sized pice. like a hand nothing too big. that would be fsking awsome. I would sell my left testicle to see that. heck I'd sell both of them for that.

Not that you need any more support judging from the responses you've already recieved, but I can't wait to see what you guys are about at Kumoricon, way cool!

I apologize for the delay, our PR gals told me there were posts, but when I checked, I apparenlty missed the last few.

SailorNaboo: mostly we need people with interface design skills and preferably military and/or industrial exp. We need help designing the amchine to be more efficient and easier for the operator to use than existing vehicles.

Zensuke: We will bring mech parts. We will have some leg gears, input shafts, and 216:1 demo frames, as well as metal samples. Bring your testicles.

Darken: We are currently assembling the first machine. We havve mostly parts at this point, nothing walking yet. We need to get the entire cockpit squared away, with all computers and control systems onboard and functioning 100% before we can have ti walk. That will take a couple more years, I expect.  Mech at Kumoricon 2006?  One can hope.

needlenoggin: Thank you  =)  Please do come and see the panel.

Sweet, we should be across the river at the convention center by then! You could probably fit one inside one of the convention center halls.... then again, I'm not sure howm much weight that'd be on the floor!
