Mathmatical Brain teaser
« on: September 03, 2008, 10:50:37 pm »
This has been hurting my head all day and I can't seem to figure this out so here:

The following equation is false -- doing the operation in order as written does not end up with the correct answer.
Make the equation correct by adding parenthesis.

5 + 3 * 4 + 12 / 2 * 6 = 33

and another 4 if you figure that one out:

Insert parenthesis, +, -, *, or /, or ,ale a number and exponent so that the value of each sequence is equal to the given amount.
There may be more then one solution for each problem. Try and find a second solution for each!

1.  1    9    8    7  =  8

2.  1    2    3    4    5  =  10

3.  4    5    1    6    2  =  9

4.  3    2    1    5  =  2

Try and work those out ^_^ Have fun!

1*9-(8-7)=8
1+2*(3+4)-5=10
4*5+1-6*2=9
3*2+1-5=2

(5 + 3) * 4 + 12 / (2 * 6) = 33
easy (don't know if anyone else got this already; I just hit "quote" and started solving. :P

1.  1 * 9 - 8 + 7  =  8

2.  1 + 2^3 - 4 + 5  =  10

3.  4 * 5 + 1 - 6 * 2  =  9

4.  3 * 2 - 1 * 5  =  2
