Living in Portland is like Living in an Anime Con
« on: September 07, 2008, 09:17:37 am »
Normally I wouldn't pimp a non-Kumori-specific blog post here, but I thought some of yo might be interested in this particular item: I had this interesting evening last night that made me think about how Portland is sometimes like a giant 24/7 anime convention...in a good way ;) If you're interested, check it out here!

Apologies if this is too spam-y and should be removed ^_^; But I was hoping some of y'all might have stories of con-like moments in town (this or another) :D

I have seen Batman and his bike on the Max.  Plus, we have the Saturday Market not only on Saturday, but Sunday too!

It's funny how I live kind of close to Portland (Fairview), but whenever I go down there, I feel a little bit like a tourist. lol It probably had to be because of the old POS cars I used to own... Not any longer!

that's awesome, we have weird goings on down here in Eugene also. I was at our mall and saw 3 cosplayers wandering around.
And now I'm a catgirl?

The voice of the one I love
was all I could hear as I lay broken in the darkness
My own voice faltered
My wings no longer had the strength to fly

Yeah, Portland is definitely a gem of a city, that's for sure. Saturday Market used to have Elvis' Singing Twin Brother, and it still has Silver Man. Go to the Lovecraft Film Festival not 7 max stops away and you can see Cthosplayerthulhu (a Cthulhu cosplayer). I've not seen cosplayers just out and about much in Portland, but that doesn't mean people don't get dolled up to whatever extreme they have an affinity for. Portland is like the runway of Oregon, everyone wants to be seen (and this is a terrible generalization, lol).

They have a lady at the Saturday Market that sells ocarinas with Triforces on them, and they come with Zelda picture music!  You can hear her playing a Zelda song every now and then.

Oh, and Portland even has its own variation of the Pocky club! Go to Saturday Market and look for the Donut Angel. She goes around (or at least used to, haven't seen her lately) giving Voodoo Donuts to people, for free, just because she likes to. ^_^ That's love right there, haha

:D when was this? I'll bet I know them.

The doll woman is beautimous... I wish I could go around like that. Unfortunately I tend to fidget quite a bit.

The other day, I was waiting for the max by Pioneer Place, and there was a guy riding around the block on a REALLY TALL bike, and he was wearing a top hat.

Well, his comment is valid since people are saying Living in Portland is like living in an anime con. He was just asking, where the game room was in Portland, and I would have to answer Ground Kontrol or Backspace. lol

This is a pretty spammy topic; it's a fine line.  My comment was on-topic.
