Cake on a Plane cosplay group discussion! Non-members welcome~

[Cassiopeia]

History of the group:
We started out creating this cosplay group called Cake on a Plane.
And the idea was workin' for a while - first it started out with no name, and we decided on one. We voted on what anime we should cosplay from. It seemed to be going well, until people started... well, just abandoning it, and at Kumoricon 2008, we didn't do anything as a group. We didn't have a skit, and only 2 people showed up for the photoshoot.

Kumoricon 2009 was a much more successful year! We cosplayed from the series Strawberry Panic!, ran a panel, and were super awesome fantastic. We also ran a panel at MEW. For Kumoricon 2010, we cosplayed from Shugo Chara, and ran an even more super awesome fantastic panel than we did last time.




We plan to:
-Cosplay
-Make videos
-Perform skits
-Make new friends
-Gain fans
-Have fun!!


Rules for the group!:
- You must be dedicated. (We don't want people quitting on us like last time)
- You must have an open mind and a positive attitude. (It's important for working with others)
- You must communicate with the group. Post regularly!
- Online meeting requirement: Give a heads up if you're going to miss a meeting. Miss four in a row without giving any notice, and you'll be kicked from the group. You will be given a warning after the third.
- Basically, check in twice a week and tell us if you can't make it to a meeting.
- If you're posting about missing a meeting, make sure to include the words "absent notice" for easy searching, and post the date of the meeting/s that you will miss.


To apply: Applications are currently closed, but if you really want to be involved with us, just talk to us here in the thread.

If you feel you can't commit to anything, reconsider joining. But. You do not have to cosplay to be a part of the group. Last time people suggested what they wanted to cosplay, and we voted on one.
Like last year the choices we all decided on her CCS, Studio Ghibli, etc.etc (forgot the others : [ )
Like last year we voted on Studio Ghibli movies and we cosplayed from that (since there are wide ranges of characters in the films : D)

Once we have an actual group, say at least 4 or 5 people or once nobody is trying to join anymore, everyone will nominate a series/movie/game/whatever to cosplay from, and then everyone will vote. It worked pretty well last time.

What does everyone else say to my suggestion of meeting up once we decide on what to cosplay from? I think it's a good idea even if everyone knows the series, as a group bonding experience or something.

I believe we should have a regularly scheduled time where we all get online and talk, instead of having meet-ups which are more complicated since we don't all live that close to each other. We will have occasional meet-ups - at least I hope to, for recording videos, recording audio for skits, and just fun stuff like getting the whole group together to, like oslapedo said, marathon whatever it is we decide to cosplay - but I'm talking about a regular time where we discuss everything going on with the group, like weekly. Not daily because daily is a bit much (although it'd be nice I don't think it's possible plus we'd run out of stuff to discuss rather quickly).

The idea is that we would have this after we decide on whatever we're cosplaying from, so the seeing-if-they-are-interested doesn't work because they're already obligated to cosplay from it. If they're a cosplayer.
But maybe once nominations happen we can provide information on a title to anyone who isn't familiar with it. To anyone who couldn't make it to the meet-up, if they happen to be one of those people that haven't seen said title (that we should be scheduling the meet-up for but by some freak scheduling problem they couldn't make it) we must get them familiarized with it though, so yes.



HatakeGirlX, I'll process your application in a moment, and CatchxMe, we can officially dub that meet-up "movie night" even if it's a show or game we're cosplaying from, because that sounds good and is simple. xD

Clackamas has Sushiland (I think) next to Stanfords (I think thats the name...) and Lloyd center has the sushi place inside the mall food court, or Koji's which is a few blocks away.  : D

It'd be nice to have a wider age range, but 4/5 of us here are around 15.  Switch those; 4/5 of us here are around 15, but I want this group to be more spread out in terms of ages. >.> I don't want Natalie to feel all alone.  -- She is knowledgeable about sushi by malls! Who knew?!

Gahh, I haven't had time to spend on the forums lately.
I think 5 is a pretty good size for a group. There's still room to grow but I think we can begin planning stuff.
When is a good time for everyone to meet? I'm pretty busy until the beginning of October. School is killing me and it'll take me a few weeks to get used to the workload, plus I've got stuff planned for weekends this month.

thought I comment since I following this thread for a while.

some of the series mentioned dun have very distinct outfits,  while it may not be as bad as when you're in a group, you may still have people wondering who you are despite cosplaying a popular series(Love Hina, maybe Higurashi no naku koro ni,Kanon look like worst case of this).

as for what I personally would like to see is either Strawberry Panic or Mahou Sensei Negima.  Both series are rather well known, somewhat distinct outfits, and aren't really series you see much cosplays from.
