I'm in the same boat, I still need to see the first one but I'd love to actually take part and come see this one. I can't miss out like I did with the first DN film in theaters, heh.

Hmm...If I do end up going, it will most likely either be in Olympia or Vancouver. It honestly depends on distance, simply because it's on a school night. Looks like vancouver is about...65.17 miles away and olympia is about 50.11. But, I'll need to talk to my mom. XD Let her know about this. >< So, I probably won't see you guys at the theater. XD I'm definitely cosplaying, though.

CHECK: Fathomevents.com for other theaters closer to you!

I believe the 1st one is coming out on DVD later this month...I saw the ad, but don't remember the date. But honestly the 1st movie is on such crack I'm not sure you need to see it...

And would K-con have fliers for 2009 by then? I may be able to ask my GM if its okay to hand them out those nights...

Anyhow, its still a month away, but I just wanted to let people know about it.

It most likely is.. I saw the first live action Death Note in theaters, also a Fathom-hosted event, and it was dubbed. BUT, I'm like you, normally I cant stand dubbed live action, but the first one was really good. Maybe it was a combination of having the actors that looked like the anime characters, combined with the english VA dubs.. but it was pretty sweet in my opinion.

And if anybody is interested in meeting up with me, I will most likely be attending the show on one of those days, at Cedar Hills theaters in Beaverton.

I downloaded both Death Note Live action fansubs months ago.  Why waste my money at the theater.   ;D  I was thinking of playing them for anime Friday at my home on Halloween.  If I get enough people interested in coming to Eugene and watching a double feature, we can maybe have a combo cosplay and Death Note Halloween.  Let me know if you want to try something.  Sorry, I only have a 46" HDTV hooked up to my 2 terabytes of downloaded anime and a 7.1 surround system with a sub that will burst your eardrums.  So I can't really compare to a theater.  I am MUCH better!!   ;D  If you absolutely can't wait till Halloween then let me know and we can try for any Friday before then.  Leave Halloween open for some Hellsing Ultimate or Claymore.

Yeah, no.. 46" is so great compared to an HD projection that's over 20 feet. And a giant room with 20+ speakers, hooked up to subs, that's designed to enhance the sound and bounce the acoustics.

But hey, 2 terabytes isn't bad.. I've got 2 terabytes myself. And that's just my external harddrives. Plus over 400 burned DVDs of anime.

But anyway, it's worth going to see it in theaters if there's alot of cool people there you wanna hang out with. It's fun.

You are in Beaverton.  I'm in Eugene.  The theaters here have quite a ways to go.  Especially the ones that play anime.  Death Note will play for one night in a decent theater, but if it was going to have a run it would probablly end up at the Bijou.  That is where Paprika, Ghost in the Shell - Innocense, Howl's Moving Castle, and Steamboy played.  Most of them for one week during school hours.  My place is much better than that.  Of course I can't fit as many people in here, but I have been playing anime at my home every Friday for over a year and I still haven't had more than 6 people show up, so I guess that isn't a problem.

Think you have me beat on quantity of DVD's  I have three 2" binders with double sided sleeves that hold 4 DVD's or CD's to a side.  I still haven't recopied all of my old CD-R's to DVD format, so I am not quite up to your level.  I do have just about everything that is currently out, and a lot of the older classics.  All of Bleach, Naruto, SailorMoon, MAR, InuYasha, Ranma, Kenshin, FMA, FMP, Code Geass, Claymore, Hellsing, and of course Death Note, plus many, many more.  I am working on One Piece.  Have the first 300 episodes so far.

Super secret confession, though, I'm not really a Death Note fan, but it sounds like fun. :)

From a strictly technical standpoint, DVD cannot even remotely compare to 35mm film for quality. Even Blu-Ray is not quite as good. Also, most home versions of movies have the dynamic range much reduced for the soundtrack (this may be changing on Blu-Ray--I need to investigate), so the sound is usually much better in a theater, too--even the analog track.

Heh, the projections were doing a random run through of the film this morning when me and my co-worker got there...we heard something from one of the auditoriums and checked it out.

And yes, I do have to agree with Jeff, 35mm (or even better, 70mm IMAX) film will always be higher quality. Plus seeing it on the big screen is just cool. ^__^

Well I have to agree a theater has it's own appeal.  I suppose the best part is the audience participation.  I will still say that watching it at my place can be better.  Mainly because I have a small area with a lot of speakers.  The audio in my home , in my opinion, is better than when I saw the same shows at the theater.  I am talking shows like Star Wars, and Indiana Jones.  I think they are better at my home.  My surround will recreate that spacial feeling you get when you hear something coming from the back and moving through the theater.  True my HDTV could be bigger, but it is only 8' from the viewer.  Looks about the same as a movie screen from the back of the theater.

It is all moot anyway,  Not a single person has shown up at my place to watch either Death Note, the latest Studio Ghibli film "Ponyo", or replied to my latest post about First Episode Theater this Friday to watch 11 of the new shows airing in Japan right now.  Hey, I can't force you to watch it all for free if you don't want to.

Bridgeport and Cedar Hills are the two showing it....there might be one in Vancouver but I'm not sure.

But sadly I am not going to be able to make it. I have to take a quiz around 5 Thursday so I wouldn't be able to get there in time. But I have already seen both of them ^_^
