Hey Everyone. (:
I've been attending Gasukan in seattle, which is a mini cosplay gathering they have monthly to keep everyone in touch and such, and I was wondering if you guys would be interested in doing something like that here in portland. : D
They set it up so that there's a theme for the cosplay, and they move it around to different areas of the city each month.
Now keep in mind that these don't have to be extreme cosplays, they're just fun themed costumes.

So let me know if it'd be something you all would participate in!

in Portland? Yeah I would love to do that....we are trying to plan meet-ups bi-monthly in the meet-up suggestion topic. I'm guessing that is what this would fall under.

I agree.. it would definitely be fun. Though, I don't know about the theme thing.. might make it hard for the poor cosplayers like myself to fit in at some of them.

I think this sounds like fun, though the theme should be optional (if it isn't already). As said already, not everyone can afford to make lots of costumes, or have the time, even if the outfits are fairly simple.

I don't think I'd have time to make a new outfit every month anyway. I'm currently working on some outfits right now (a B-Wing pilot from "Star Wars", an Earth Federation uniform from "Mobile Suit Gundam" and a Mayuri Kurotsuchi from "Bleach").
But a monthly, bi-monthly, ect. meet-up would be fun.

yeah, I've been meaning to try and do this for some time now, but I've just never got around to it.

it may sound expensive and whatnot but it really isn't. XD I've gone to several of the meetups wearing cosplays with clothes found in my closet.
the theme thing is optional, it's just something that's fun to use to change the characters up a bit.

for instance, this month's gasukan theme (that's actually tomorrow) is school themed, so we got a group of gurren lagann cosplayers to wear slacks and white shirts, and I'm being the teacher-yoko.

it's not as complicated as I had made it sound. n.n;;

Or maybe themes according to the location you pick, like... You probably don't want having a Mononoke shoot in an urban setting, but rather something like TWEWY or something ^^

Haaay I'm game. :-O I actually wasn't aware that Gasukan's theme was school oriented. It probably should have been obvious, but I didn't realize it until you piointed it out. Wow. x.x

and as for a meet-up here in portland that would be awesome! driving up to Seattle is a hassle sometimes -.-

I think it would be fun if it was. School themed, or seasonally themed. That way, no one would be cold when there was a meetup during winter time. Same goes for Spring and Summer time. Plus, you could be creative about it, too.

I think that people are a little confused about the whole theme thing. x.x;
It's an optional theme as an idea to throw together a new/creative cosplay. It's actually really fun. XD;;
The seasonal thing sounds like a good idea, my only main concern would be the Christmas thing because not everyone celebrates Christmas, but we could definitely have a winter-themed meet up (I'm just being broad so people don't get offended) and go ice skating or sing carols. ( : that'd be super fun!

I was thinking of doing something halloween themed where we all meet up and go to the corn maze or something fun like that. XD

i think its a good thing to let people run off on what they think would be fun rather than just trying to copy something else, breathes a touch of originality no? Anywhoot, so everyone seems to agree that the general idea of frequent meet-ups because they are meetups sounds good. how about some details?

Well I will talk to my parents about a Christmas party....I think there will be a limit to the amount of people I can have but I'll still be able to invite a lot (I imagine the limit would be around 40)

Alright I think we should have the Christmas Party at Lloyd or something. At Lloyd we can go ice skating and for the secret Santa we can go upstairs to the food court for that....It would be best at someones house but if I did it people would get left out v.v

I chose ice skating because that is something someone does around Christmas time and seeing how this is a Christmas party >_>

If you have any other suggestions let me know....I need to get this started soon. So I will say that if there isn't anything better by the end of the week we are going to go with this one.

hmm, well I'm sure that there's plenty of things to do around portland, that's no suprize. XD; I'm just trying to think of something that everyone can be involved in, cause I know a few people that got wayyy hurt last time they ice-skated! one ended up with stitches. D: (stupid dei!)

I'd have to check if it's a 21+ venue, but I read in Nylon magazine that there's a Rockband bar [by bar I mean something like a karaoke bar, not drinking] in Portland

what about having the Christmas thing next to the big tree they have in the square every year? I think that that would be fun, its also in the general area to be able to go window shopping and maybe buy food for those of us with money and/or awesome leeching skills.

As for the monthly thing................ .................... ........................ drawing a blank. well octobers coming up and there IS already some holoween stuff but that doesnt mean that that cant be added onto. im not reaching any immediate ideas but im sure people can think of something............. nya.........

that's not a bad idea. The problem that I can see is that it will be cold. A lot of costumes (including mine) don't have a lot of fabric and people will get cold fast so I was trying to find a place inside. I believe that Pioneer Place has a tree inside around that time >_>

thats a good idea as well. but as long as its not raining shouldnt most oregonian's be fine, lol. But ya, i can agree with what youre saying.

so once a place gets designated has a time and day been designated? clearly its gonna need to be at least a week before the actual holiday as to not fsk up anyones plans. weekends are also possibly preferable tho at least the highschoolers will be going on break. when do the winter breaks typically start anyways?
