hey guys, I'm going to be making my first few props for Kumoricon 09, and I was going to be making a really big sythe. [like the one in the picture] the blade will be foam and paper mache, so it's won't be dangerous. But I was wondering how TALL I could make it? Since a recent picture in the manga revealed that it was actually pretty big [7 ft+]

is there any rules on how tall it's allowed to be? and should I be concerned about hallways/elevators?

it think it doesn't really matter unless you warn staff about it first. considering how big of hammer one of the lavi cosplayers had. that was massive and they were aloud to carry it around. as long as your prob isn't to dangerous, gets peace bonded and you know how to handle it you should be fine. :3

OK everyone, We got lucky with the size of the elevators and hallways this year. I don't think the Hilton is going to have the room for the giant props. They could maybe fit in the lobby and the Plaza level (top of the big staircase) but I don't know if they would make it in the elevators.
Certainly not on the 3rd floor.

something tall might be OK but we aren't going to be able to handle the really big stuff again.

dont worry tom I'm making my mallet detachable :3 So I can take off the handel and cary the rest of it up into the room... Mines not as bigt as epic huge one last year but its still goin to be pretty big >.> with extendable handel <3 oh I love epic props

yea, it's not really big in the other directions. but i think it's going to be pretty epic! I can't wait to get started! but right now I'm involoved with too many things, so I can probably start after october....YAY!

I heard that they actually gave it to the bum in the glomp circle to live in after the con.

Lavi's too proud of that hammer... And the fact that it can double as a pole-dancing pole, to give it to a hobo.

I got by with two-by-six as my largest prop, but my own hammer will be 8x3x2. The hammer head itself will be a pretty average size, the handle will be long. I'm definitely only using it for photoshoots and a limbo pole. Not going to bring it inside except for storage or if I go to a panel/participate as a walk-on in the masquerade.

Er.....My sasori blade wings are gonna be about a foot out on both ways hopefully that wont count as a fire hazerd for getting out the doors or anything

I would look into making the retractable >.> easyer hall way manovering, their wire right? if they have joints try to make them working joints so you can fold them in.

Well its actually going to be plastic and I know if i make them fold able the'll be really flimsy and everything D: I guess i'll just have to make the smaller or take the torso off when I go inside buldings

remeber if you can't see them well enough you might need a handler, some one with you to make sure your radius wont hurt anyone,

@superjaz: dont worry im haveing 2 pple come with me and stand on both sides to make sure I dont murder anyone and also be my eyes and voice cuz Im to quiet for the fangirls and I never see them comeing >w> so anyay im sure it should be going smoothly enuff to the point on were I dont hurt anyone and dont cause a fire hazerd.

As you can see, there's some places you just can't go with these costumes and props.

I highly suggest you come by the elections on Saturday even if you aren't staff, that way you have an excuse to take a peek at the hotel.

unfortunately I live too far away to check out the hotel, but I can already tell that I probably won't be using the elevators on the last day ^_^'
I think my angel wings might fit though...if not they'll be easy to remove [like a backpack]

thanks tom! your such a ninja to take a look inside for everyone. this really helps a lot. and not even just for props to know how we're going to be getting around and how packed it's gonna get. I gotta say I think the main entrance area is bigger then the double tree but it still looks really cramped. not much space in the halls.

I wish I could come to the elections but I'm a bit busy this weekend.

The main lobby has room for people but not big props or costumes because of all of the pillars and furniture to run into.

a harness/backpack kind of thing would be very nice for your sasori cosplay, that's what I'm doing for L's wings [and my friends wings, who is going to be light]

Well no, you're not stuck. Simply have the wings extend out from the bottom of the backpack from a harness underneath it. That way the wings are part of the backpack and not part of something that restricts movement. You can always take the backpack off to get through tighter spaces!

But.....I cant do that considering the thing im talking about isnt a backpack and the wings are a little ways under it ._. I was just thinking of makeing the wings tubeing hooked to part of the torso and so all I have to do it unhook it and the wings would come off.

I think it might be done by kcon lite but Im not gonna attach the blades until sakuracon so that way I wont spoil my awesomeness cosplay. That really wasnt the plan but I got motivated to get it done early so I can have lots of fun...
