I'm just curious, what's everyone's favorite sushi?

I love the shrimp tempura rolls, california rolls, octopus, and spider rolls.

I like udon. And tempura, but udon is a definite yummy. ^.^

I don't eat sashimi, I've had food poisoning enough times in my life to hate raw meats of any type. >.<

Eel... fresh water or sea. both are yummy. oh, and I second Peter's comments. Can't forget Unari though... though, it isn't sashimi.

there is a japanese place only 2-3 blocks away on the waterfront that has all kinds of japanese food.

squid and octopus are always good choices to me... hmmm, california rolls are good...... usually I end up getting a bentou box and deciding what to get them. I can't really say that I have actual favorites though or even usuals.

Actually, I demand pity for I am allergic to all seafood so I avoid all sushi, even the vegetarian kind.

Salmon and tuna and cucumber ^_^.. Avacado can be ok in sushi too, but only when it's not overly mushy =_=

And I never have roe or fish eggs of any kind for..personal reasons >_>

I really like inari and salmon. There are other things that I also like but I can't remember their names at the top of my head... - -;;;

Also, inari from Fred Meyers isn't too bad. I just avoid the raw fish there. *Eyes the raw food with a wary look*

well Sushi from Fred Meyers sounds as safe as shrimp from DairyQueen, or just pulling over and eating something dead from the road. However I do like Sushi-domo and Sakura here in Eugene, I don't know what it's called but I really liked the salmon strip over rice. Yummy.

Man, what happened at fred meyers? They used to have sushi chefs make their sushi, is it different now?

I like all of the above sushis and in addition, I like the sweet egg top kind and the salmon-cucumber-cream cheese combo ^_^

Huh, the sushi at the Tualatin Fred Meyers isn't so bad, it's just EXPENSIVE as all hell.

I like avacado and imitation crab. Those are yummy!

I've tried that lime-chili shrimp ramen and it wasn't that bad. I'm not crazy about hot stuff but it wasn't any different in spicy-hotness from what they sell in asian supermarkets.
In other news, I tried an interesting sushi at Dragonfish in Portland. I think it was like salmon, lemongrass, and something else. Actually the only thing I can remember is the lemongrass. That was super tasty.

Avacado

that's my fav! I always have to get some california rolls whenever I get sushi. I try to get an assortment when I go, but avacados are essential. Oh yeah, and I have heard that Kyoto's got excellent sushi. I live in Salem (have for many years), and I think it was my mother that told me. There's also another spot in downtown Salem I've heard has good sushi. I can't remember the name, but I think it's that one that's on the second floor in that one mall building... something Lotus?? It seems that my sushi loving friends love the spots in Portland the best. I'll try to get the names and locations from them soon.

I have a guideline.
Never eat ramen with more than two flavors.
As if it weren't enough that I can't have any fish at all, when my girlfriend has seafood we can't even kiss because it makes my lips all burny. She has to plan her seafood eating carefully.
Of course, she has such a wimpy tummy she gets grossed out in the seafood section of Uwajimaya so sushi is out of the question for her.

in my case you will see me enjoying sushi over at the sushi bar with the conveyer belt (anywhere that has one). My absolute fav is Egg Wrap California Rolls. and I too have seen the dangerous 4 flavor ramen from winco, SPICEY!

There' s a place down on 23rd that sells deep-fried calironia rolls and such. veeerrryy good >:} I guess they know how to please us americans eh eh? xD

Tenpura, house special, tuna salad, fried kalamari, salmon cream cheese roll, californian (without eggs, just the sesemes) and probably some others too. Good stuff.

I'd have to say the best sushi I've had in town has be at this place on 91st-ish and holgate. (can't recalll the name of the place) They also have a location downtown about 1 block south from embers

Now by "lo mein" do you mean the dish with the noodles, or something else? O_o;

In New York, the noodle-dish everyone's so fond of is lo mein; in California it's chow mein. Friends from California go back home to New York and order chow mein and get all confused when they get steamed vegetables X); Friends from New York come here and get all confused when the waitress gets confused because there's no such thing as lo mein Oo;

You should always double-check when in new chinese restaurants, especially if they're not in your generally-considered normal vicinity.

For example, lo mein exists in Mammoth Mountain, CA! =O It was very shocking, so I ordered it posthaste, without asking if it was, in point of fact, the noodle dish.

It was stuffed mushrooms ><;; *shuuudder* I imagine that particular venue was on some sort of Chinese Food Hallucinogen or something, because... well come on. Stuffed mushrooms. Lo mein. Makes No~ sense o__O;

As far as I know, Oregon has chow mein, not lo mein, but again, double-checking is always a good idea. Plus, most menus list lo/chow mein under "noodles" or "noodles & rice" on the menu, which is a generally foolproof way if you're afraid of the waitperson =D

Inari is definately my favorite as well. I'm a vegetarian and have never tasted sushi with fish. My diet limits my selection of sushi, but thanks to sushi like inari, not my intake!

I've never seen that. At the one in Pioneer Square, they usually only leave it out for half an hour--that's if it lasts that long. People usually snap it up by then.

I love sushi. but I dont have a favorite type of sushi. We make it once and a while in my family but never knew that they had different names.

Actully to be honest I was always told gorwing up that sushi was just sea weed and rice (the literal translation) You can wrap the rice in seaweed or just have a bowl of rice with seaweed shreded in it.

IN my familiy we have a recipe book with authentic recipes from otehr countries. we have a few japanese recipes (one is a sushi dish which is a bowl or rice some other stuff and seaweed) My grandparents got them when they lived in japan. We usually make the wrapped kind though.

I have heard people say it is just seaweed and rice and heard people say sushi is only rice rolled in seaweed. I have heard others say sushi is raw fish (which is in correct. Sashimi is raw fish sushi is not regardless of what others say raw fish)
All the credible sources though confirm that my family was right on waht sushi is.

I love everything in my sushi. Though I prefer the wrapped kind.
Tomagoyagi tastes really good in sushi as a filler.
I like to dip my rolled sushi in some mastard paste stuff (bascily powdered mustard mixed with a little water Beware it will singe your nose) or in soysauce and vinegar.
I basicly put anything with my sushi. Cheese, cucmbers anything but the kitchen sink. it is too big.

It's "Tamagoyaki"
"Yagi" is a goat...
And when your making sushi, it's not just plain rice. When my Mom makes it, she adds some vinegar ('osu') and some sugar and salt.
And the stuff that makes you singe is the "wasabi".

Then the recipe must be misspelled because it is spelled Tomago Yagi in the book.

Usually we put some rice vinegar in ours. No sugar or salt.

and you mean the mustard mixed with water is called wasabi. I have alwasy wondered about that.

Saburo is the most famous sushi place and considered to be one of the best in Portland (and probably all of Oregon). People will wait outside in line for two hours just to get a bite. =) The portions are very big, too.
