I just remembered another thing I'm pretty sure made me cry. That one episode of Pokemon where Ash and Pikachu find that Pikachu colony in the forest and Ash is all, "Pikachu is having so much fun, maybe I should leave him here. I think he'd be happier." and then that song played with a bunch of flashbacks.

;;;;;;;;A;;;;;;;; Noooooooooo, you need each other! Don't leeeeeeeeeave him behiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind! *sobs like a little girl*

Full Moon wo Sagashite.
SRSLY.
When she learns that Eiichi is dead...Ohman. I cried for hours. Same with the ending, though that was in happiness/sadness for it to be over.
It's still one of my favorite animes, no doubt.

And when Hughes died in FMA, of course...
And Pokemon. The first movie. Aaaaash. D:

My girlfriend cried to a part in Sailor Moon; the part where Neptune dies for the first time, then Uranus kills herself because of it.

^Yeah, those cousins do some crazy things sometime ;)

So it's not anime, but the episode of Futurama, "Jurassic Bark" gets me every time. I've got a small lump right now thinking of poor Seymour waiting for Fry.

This isn't counting "Luck of the Fryish" either. Man, Futurama's got some serious heart-massacring episodes.

I recently watched an episode of InuYasha from season 1.  I believe the episode number was,... 15?  Anyway, it's the one where that big ball ghost piper guides the souls of kids to the afterlife.  It ALMOST made me cry at the end.

I think the first time I ever cried from an anime had to be Naruto. I had seen it a billion times but when Zabuza and Haku died it really hit me just that one time for some reason. Also, the Elfen Lied manga made me cry too! (Manga ending way sadder than anime ending!)

I think almost everyone I've ever heard say that they've seen that series cried or came close to it.  I read the manga first, so the anime kind of irritated me at various points, especially the ending.  It wasn't even close to that in the manga...

I cried during the end credits of the second to last episode of Petite Princess Yucie. They made you think she was going to never remember the friends that sacrificed themselves at the end of the competition and it left the worst feeling ever at how sad she was.   :(((((
When I am chasing my tail and catch my back leg instead, I will not bite down on my foot. This hurts, and my scream scares my human.

I was just watching Paprika.  The scene where the detective is drunk in the virtual bar and reminiscing about his friend who died after getting accepted into film school.  I had just heard about Satoshi Kon's death, which is why we were watching Paprika.  For some reason that scene just hit me emotionally.  We will all miss you Satoshi!

As stupid as it may sound, I got a little teary-eyed during the first episode of New Fists of the North Star where the little girl was killed.

And I got teary-eyed way too often during Kanon.

And yes, I even got teary-eyed a few times watching Kaleido Star. Ugh, I really am a wuss. >>;;

I rewatched some Avatar recently, and I began getting really connected with Zuko (because I was cosplaying him)
And when we have confused and angry, I felt that way at the time. So I got a little teary-eyed seeing my inner feelings reflect in his characters mood.

It's not Japanese, but it is an animated feature, and a serious one at that - The Plague Dogs. I watched that last night, and it broke my heart to a million pieces, and each of those pieces broke to pieces, and each of those pieces broke...which just sort of became dust at that point, sooo I just have this heart dust floating around my chest.

It's a very sad movie, very realistic, about two dogs who escape from a lab of terrible experiments and cruel tests. It just keeps going downhill to a bittersweet conclusion, at which point I was sniffling and sobbing like a baby.

Well, FMA made me tear up many times for many reasons. When Nina Tucker died, for one.
But the anime that really made me sob was Kuroshitsuji, as strange as it sounds.

In the last two episodes, Sebastian is gone, and that helplessness that Ciel must have been feeling really got to me. The fact that he kept trying when he really was losing hope. And the fact that after having Sebastian by his side for two years, and after what happened to him before Sebastian came along, he's completely alone, in a foreign country, with no money, at a critical point. No one should have to go through all that. I had mascara all over my face by the time I was done with the last two episodes. I took a picture of myself. It's not very pretty. Black everywhere.  :'(  ;)

I am pretty sure I cried during Spirited Away, but that was so long ago I hardly remember.

In FMA, when Hughes died. I still can't even think of that. I loved him so much. :(

Oh, geez. I thought that scene was hard to watch in the original, but it was even heavier in the reboot. The daughter's dialogue in that scene just break your heart.

Kuroshitsuji really got to me, but I'm also an emotional wimp sometimes.  :-\  ;)
When Hughes died, oh my goodness. I almost cried at that. I could feel myself tearing up. And Marta too. It was just such a horrible way to kill someone. I was kinda too shocked to cry after that. But I kept thinking about it, trying to describe it to myself. It was just so horrible.

The ending of Ouran always made me cry happy tears. It was just so sweet. I was squealing and smiling and getting all teary at the same time.  ;)

The last episode of the second season of Kuroshitsuji is coming up, and I'm not really seeing a way out of the current situation in just one episode, but I'm sure I'll be crying. I'll let you know.  ;)

I knoooow. Especially since in Brotherhood the scene was longer, and his death more dragged out...you had the impression that maybe it would be different this time around, in this version. :(

Watched episode 24 of K-on!! (Note the 2 explanation points that indicate season two).  It is the final episode, although they show a preview for a special at the end.  I don't know why I cried exactly, it is just an emotional scene, and I am a softie.

They wrote Azusa a goodbye song and sing it to her after graduation.   :'(

What anime made me cry? I'd have to say Black Blood Brothers. Ho-ho  :D.... Sorry, little humor in this rainy thread.

For serious though, in order of increasing tearitude:

Blood+
spoiler: When her little brother Riku dies after vampire sexing near the end. Those were more WTF-tears.

Kure-nai: Whole damn anime was built to pluck heartstrings.

Toradora: Don't get me freakin' started.

When it comes to Samurai Champloo I didn't really cry, I thought it was very clever making it so that I could watch it in circles. Although Wolf's Rain did make me cry, such a sad ending... :C

I know everyone has one. I just started watching Tsubasa Chronicle and I know I will end up crying at least once before the series is over. Have you ever cried while watching anime? or had an anime that really got to you in some way?

I gotta say,I felt terribly bad for Syaoran when I started reading it..once Sakura obtained her second feather.. I know I will cry sometime!

Clannad is sad because it is so good.  You really get to like, even love, the characters, so you care about what happens to them.

If you enjoy watching anime like Kanon, Air, To Heart, and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (Rumbling Hearts) then give Clannad a try.  You won't be disappointed.   ;D

I've never really thought about it before, but I think the ending of Blue Seed was kind of sad, but the good sad.  Momiji "dies" for all of Japan; then Susano-oh blesses her, bringing her back to life.  Touching moment...

:o  WHAT!   :o  I find it hard to believe you haven't seen or heard of these.  For that genre of anime they are all classics.  The tear jerker drama anime that make you think soap opera and dating sim.  In fact Kanon was done as an anime not once, but twice.  It is like Negima and FMA in that regard.  To Heart is so popular it had a sequel and an alternate version plus some OVA's and a spin-off series called Comic Party which also had a sequel.  Air was originally released as a TV series and was so popular it got released as a movie in 2005 and played in theaters.  Rumbling Hearts was pretty popular, and I know it has been English dubbed and been available for quite some time.  It is also one of the best tragic love triangle animes on the market.  Discussions on which girl Takayuki should have gone with have been argued on threads for years.

Your comment about Blue Seed reminded me of another anime that made me cry, Figure 17.  I may have mentioned it on this thread before, I can't remember.  The end did have me crying pretty hard.   :'(

Just my opinion, but I'd have to say Kanon is probably the undisputed champion of the thread. It's the only one I know of that makes virtually everyone cry their eyes out.

But it would do it a disservice to say that's all it does. It teaches a lot of good life lessons along the way, hidden under the drama.
This is my serious voice. Otherwise, I'm just another anime fan, not a moderator.

Many animes have made me cry, I'm kinda a crier at sad things.  Heck, I almost cried in the recent episode of symbiotic titan when they were taking mushi out to space to die - and that's a kids show.

The first anime that made me cry though was Cowboy Bebop, the ending was just so poetic and sad.

Though there are animes that make me cry more then others Kanon and Grave of the Fireflys are the big two.

I've heard that Clannad is really sad, but that's all I've heard about it.  Does anyone recommend the series for any reason other than it being sad?
I is very well done. Good story and Characters. The first season is not so sad but the second season (Clannad After Story) will make even the most hardened tough guy shed waterfalls.

There is Clannad (22 eps + 2 specials, alternate ending), Clannad After Story (22 eps + 3 specials, alternate ending) and Clannad the Motion Picture (w/1 special recap).  I would recommend watching the series before the movie, or it will spoil everything for you.   :'(

That is typically how it goes, thanks.  I'll probably give it a shot after I'm done with Maison Ikkoku.

I don't remember if this has been mentioned or not, but there's one episode of FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood that almost made me cry.  The soldier who had the cute 3-year-old daughter that he was so proud of, crying about how her daddy needed to finish his work as his colleagues bury his casket.

I know people have said this already, but I cried during FMA when Hughes died. And I started crying even harder when his daughter didn't know why they were burying daddy  :'(
