Blood splatter tips?
« on: October 23, 2008, 11:44:25 pm »
For Halloween, yes 8D

I think I know what I want to do... I want to incorporate BLOOD splattered on my outfit, but I want a way that would wash out really easily o3o

And does anyone have any methods for how to get the splatter effect? Or should I just get the stuff (once I find out what'd be good) and go wild~?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum! It has to do with a costume, so...... yes x-X)

Well it could be that fake blood stuff....and you could use a paint brush and kinda to that little throwing motion with the brush but not actually throw it XD (did I make it clear enuff to read sorry if I confused you!)

What I remember from art class...
- Wear old clothes (you're going to get splattered too) and cover your work area with newspaper or a drop cloth.
- Hang up your garment, or lay it flat on the floor.
- Dip a brush/coffee stirrer/etc. (anything that has a longish handle and that can hold some liquid on its tip) into the "blood".
- Hold the brush near its tip.
- Tap the brush with short jerking motions close to the "head" (where the blood is). Depending on how close you are to your fabric and how hard you tap the brush, the splatter will be bigger.

- Another way to get bigger splatter marks: dip the end of a drinking straw into the color so it's loaded, then blow it out from the opposite end with a quick puff. This will probably give you some big blobs of color.
- If your color is thinned out, I'd also suggest drizzling it from up high (off a coffee stirrer, etc.). Try a few different methods. I'd test them out on some scrap fabric first, see what effects work best for you.

I don't know how easily the color will wash out. Depends on what you're using, but generally red's a hard color to get out of clothes.

option one actually kill someone with your desired outfit on the wall to get covered, or

option two buy fake blood off line, at spirit Halloween store or some sort of blood looking liquid at a craft store. I do believe the fake blood you can buy off line or at the Halloween store washes out. it comes off your skin when you get it wet so it should come out.

Meh 8/

I still want to know which kinds, maybe, or what ones I can make, that would be best to wash out. Just because it says washable, doesn't always mean it comes out easily x-x

Thanks for the tips though, everyone 8D

That may be going a bit far for a costume. xD

she's right, you could just brutally slice at someone, not to kill. you still get a good amount of blood splatter, but no death!

when i did my Shaun of the Dead costume a few years back I just used the fake blood stuff you can get at any costume shop. and got it on my fingers and flicked it at the shirt.

remember to do all this from a lower angle since what ever you 'stabbed' would have been lower then the shoulders.
if you are reading this i have broken free

Because its so close to halloween, a bunch of shops have fake blood in stock, so I would advise going to a store and looking on labels to see which ones are washable and which aren't! Make sure to test it out on an old shirt or something first though! :)

I do this with jeans.

Hang whatever you're splattering on a rack. (I use a bathroom rack)
Pour some fake blood in a bowl.
Take a sponge and let it soak up the blood.
Hold onto the sponge and throw at the garment whilst squeezing sponge.

Well, everyone's pretty much said it all now, so thanks again!
I think I'll be doing something different for halloween, unfortunately ^^; But maybe some other time...
