I heard they turned it off 'cause it was using too much energy. Don't take my word for it, though, 'cause I don't have a valid source.

Let's hope it does make a micro black hole, that way we can save time on starting up a zero-point energy collection system! Hell, we may even be able to create mono-poles. Then gravity polarizers. Besides it's in Europe, and we can always whine about how it was they who destroyed the Earth, and not US!

What you would get if you put an apple and an orange in the LHC?

An opal?

I knew this would happen.  Like I've been saying since high school, I bet the world could blow up and I would find out about it 3 weeks later.

this is the fault of daniel drucker dmd@3e.org

the first person to ask for an RSS feed gets a free black hole in their junk
you are too late, people have already asked. ok fine i made one. rss.xml.

ppm or 50,000 ppm [of freon] for 5 minutes had [cardiac] [arrhythmia]s
including [tachycardia] and decreased contractility (U.S. EPA 1983)"

In their paper, Coleman and de Luccia noted:

The possibility that we are living in a false vacuum has never
been a cheering one to contemplate. Vacuum decay is the ultimate
ecological catastrophe; in the new vacuum there are new constants of
nature; after vacuum decay, not only is life as we know it impossible,
so is chemistry as we know it. However, one could always draw stoic
comfort from the possibility that perhaps in the course of time the
new vacuum would sustain, if not life as we know it, at least some
structures capable of knowing joy. This possibility has now been
eliminated.
The second special case ... applies if we are now living in the
debris of a false vacuum ... This case presents us with less
interesting physics and with fewer occasions for rhetorical excess
than the preceding one.

ok i have succumbed to the siren call of adding useful information to this page, here is Seed Magazine's coverage of the LHC http://www.seedmagazine.com/news/2008/09/large_and_in_charge.php

Found that when I viewed the page info....Seemed kind of cool, so I edited out the HTML and found all this. o.o Is this normal in HTML?

They should make a bike trail directly above it, and post signs: "Beware of Collisions; May Destroy World".

So thats why the Superconducting Super Collider was canceled!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superconducting_Super_Collider

I guess they wanted to see what would happen with a smaller one before have a bigger one in Texas.
