Anyone Remember the original live action Street Fighter with Jean-Claude Van Damme?   Oh man that movie was hilarious!! and terrible it was also terrible.  In all odds this film will go right onto the shelve next to D.O.A the movie in the Comedy section of my dvd library.

Kristen Kreuk is Chun Li?

Who was smoking what when this was decided?

Man!  Now I don't wanna see it!  (Ah, who am I kidding?  I still wanna, just not as much now).

Why couldn't they get someone who at least looks Chinese?  Or better yet, is Chinese?  Like Ziyi Zhang?  (She played Chiyo, the main character, in Memoirs of a Geisha).

Oh well.  I will say this much; I'll only see it in theatres if I go with a group of friends.

Because 2009 is the 20th anniversary of Street Fighter II, and Chun Li is the only character that had a storyline that wasn't completely stupid.

Michael Clarke Duncan has always reminded me of a big huggable teddy bear. Maybe its because I saw him in The Green Mile before I saw The Scorpion King. *For the record, The Green Mile TOTALLY is the better movie, and an awesome book too!!!*

Because 2009 is the 20th anniversary of Street Fighter II, and Chun Li is the only character that had a storyline that wasn't completely stupid.

They were going to make a Blanka movie, but they tweaked a couple of details, gave Blanka more dialog, and then it was released as Cloverfield.

Thanks!  :D

Now, I looked into this Neal McDonough guy (because the link wasn't working I guess).  Here's some of the stuff he has done/is doing:

Films
Lieutenant Hawk in Star Trek: First Contact (Best ST movie, by the way)
Officer Gordon Fletcher in Minority Report
Daniel Fleming in I Know Who Killed Me
Jon Forster in 88 Minutes

TV
Dr. Driscoll Rampart III in White Dwarf
David McNorris in Boomtown
Dave Williams in Desperate Housewives

This could be... interesting. I watch Desperate Housewives and Neal McDonough plays freindly, neighborhood, nice-guy with an agenda and creepy past well. I'll proabably see it.

On a slightly related note, the new Street Fighter game looks fun...

I'd heard of this movie but I thought it was made in Japan...and that it was still filming. I also thought Gong Li was playing the title role.

Cammy's story doesn't suck but it ties in with some that do.

Actually...Dan's story would make a HILARIOUS movie, like a parody of itself.

Her story was kinda dull; it needed some tweeking.

Dan should've never been made.  From what I gather, he's in the new game.  Why?

I liked it when I saw it in the theater and I still do now. ^_^ Who can forget the transformation of Guile's friend, Charlie, into Blanka, through M. Bison's twisted reprogramming machine? Or the superconductivity-induced levitation of M. Bison's transporter/control center, and then of his own person as he delivers the Psycho Crusher in the final battle?

This movie never lets down through the very end, complete with ending song Something There by J-pop band Chage & Aska, and an after-credits promise of a sequel.

Van Damme and Bison had all the best lines in that movie!

Or the superconductivity-induced levitation of M. Bison's transporter/control center

I loved that thing! It reminded me of the thing Bowser use to ride around on in the old Mario games.  And if you look closely Bison controls it with the Street Fighter Arcade setup. :P

Shame Ken and Ryu didn't get to do to much Fighting. Hopefully the Chun-Li movie will be as funnay as the Van Damme one.

That's one of the things I hated about the movie.  That's not what happens to Charlie, nor how Blanka came to be, in the game's storyline.  They're two different people!  Blanka's name use to be Johnny, not Charlie!  They even introduced the Charlie character in future SF2 games; he's not a Brazilian named Carlos, he looks kinda like Egon from Ghostbusters.

I'm rambling now, so I'm zip it for the time being.

I am well aware of all that. :) That's what makes it all the more absurd. Wasn't Blanka "formed" in the canonical storyline by being involved in a plane crash in a lightning storm? (Trying to remember from the old strategy guide...)

M.Bison had the best lines because Raoul Gulia was the best actor.
VanDamme.... well he was the highest PAID actor.

You gotta love the kaiju sequence with E Honda and Zangief though. That's one of the comedy highlights.

That's true.

SPeaking of Honda, why did they have him be Samoan instead of Japanese?  That was just stupid.  Also, Dee Jay wasn't a fighter!  He was a tech!  And Dhalsim wasn't a fighter, either!

Also, Dee Jay wasn't a fighter!  He was a tech!  And Dhalsim wasn't a fighter, either!

Like many movie adaptations, they took liberties to make it more interesting. A movie about a series of sequential fights in which exactly two out of a possible three rounds is used to determine the victor (except in cases in which each fighter inflicts exactly equal blows in a certain amount of time, or they simultaneously KO each other, in which case, up to four rounds is permitted), would be boring.

I know, I'm exaggerating to make a point, but I never minded that they changed some of the characters in order to fit a story that focused on a few of them more strongly.

Now, you could argue, they also should have toned down some of the absurd elements, like the psycho crusher, instead of lifting them from game to screen verbatim. Oh well. I like them. :)

But they didn't even indicate that they were fighters at all.  That sucked.  Granted, Dhalsim was probably the worst fighter of the original 8, but he was still a fighter.  As was Dee Jay, an under-rated one, at that.

It looks like they tried to have the movie be less like the game in the looks department; perhaps that's their justification for having Kreuk playing Chun Li and an Asian man playing Vega.  ;D

Oh well, this makes me think that, dispite this flaw, it will be a better movie than the previous one.

How excited am I for this movie?  SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you could figure that based on all of my Chun Li signatures, my chun li plushie, chun li PS2 controller and skin, Chun Li figurine and fan art on my wall.  I love her.

Not sure I love the actress they chose to play her but we will see after I see this movie in theaters. Seriously though they better at least give her buns during some point in the movie.

I agree; not the best actress to go with.  I doubt they'll do the bun thing, at least not much of it.

Yeah, that was done fairly well.  It seemd kinda like what an Interpol agent might do.

No Spinning Bird Kick for you mister! You just want a panty shot!  :D lol... But, yes, at the least they have (will have) Kikouken! ^_^

Hmm... funny how Chun Li speaks Japanese in the SF games and is from China. Now, a movie with a young gal does not speak Japanese and is not from China (a quarter chinese doesn't count)... I wonder how much her background is kept from the SF series.

Gotta wait to find out, ne? ^_^ I like Kristen...don't get me wrong--just maybe not for this role. Perhaps, my mind will change when I watch it.

yeah... So it appears that she may not ever get the "traditional" look during this movie...

I feel that way too. It looks so modern-y like the Matrix generation that I wonder how they'd fit the traditional look if they could.  Street Fighter IV looks promising to me though! And that comes before the Chun Li movie! YAY! Excitement!  :D
And so it begins...

I'd hope to see Chun Li in her original outfit, but like others have said, it doesn't look too likely. Still, I can't wait to see the movie. Chun Li was my favorite Street Fighter character, right tied with Blanca. (Now if HE could get his own movie....w00! lqtm)

Same with me, though a Blanka movie would probably be butchered to death out of the ignorance of the movie creators.

It would be like "DOH!"... iffy Blanka Movie...

One game-turned-movie that wasn't too bad, I think, is Hitman...really it wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been.

The Blu-Ray for the original Street Fighter movie was released yesterday, and I rented it and watched it yesterday. It was great, like always.

Apparently it's impermissible to convert a video game into a comedy which is also serious and a good movie. Cause, you know, a game where cartoon characters use special moves like fireballs, electricity, and fire-breathing is deadly serious business. I think the fact that the moral themes and characterizations were black and white also didn't go over well with today's critics.

Since I don't think they could do Blanka seriously, I think it'd be funny to see a Blanka comedy starry Jack Black.

Oh my word...how could you think that? I would die of laughter...most likely. Oh my, my imagination is running like crazy! LOL.  :D Don't get me wrong. Blanka is awesome--Blanka played by Jack Black?!?! Haha!

That would be hilarious, and it is actually pretty plausible. Just look at the trailer for "Year One". If Jack Black can be a caveman-turned-centurion, then I'm sure someone somewhere would consider the Blanca idea seriously.

The idea actually came from Jack Black dressed up as Baby Sass (-quatch) in PoD.

Closest thing I could find to a picture.
