Superjaz's oh so fun Christmas trip to the ER!

So Christmas morning I wake up at 7 to get some baking done when i notice i was itchy on my belly...and my arms....and the back of my head.... so I woke up kendo fiance and asked him and he said they looked like hives. As the day went on, they got worse and worse, spreading over my chest, back and arms.
around dinner time it was all but unbearable and that was with taking 3 benidrils and my throat was feeling weird and i was having coughing fits
urgent care was closed so we went to the ER and after a looong wait (to which a male nurse was like "3 hours is the norm") my chest was literaly one giant hive and i was curled up on the bed in a ball holding my own hands to keep from ripping off my skin like i so wanted
talked to the doc and it must have been somthing i ate that i am allergic to or i suddenly turned allergic to somthing i normaly eat, got some meds given by the same guy who was like"its only sereious if it affects your throat (it was) watery eyes are normal "
my eyes were watery because i was trying not to cry from the pain of the itch

today i am still pretty bad but not as bad as yesterday, tho it seems like i have small hives on places i didnt yesterday like my face and hands and feet, and medium welts everywhere else,

And i am so drugged, 2 benidrl evey couple of hours 2 pepcids a day(they block histmes) and 5 steroid tabs, that can also mess with my blood sugar and make me hyper of moody or both
and the itchying is so painful, think of the lice queen episode of invader zim

I sorry, feel better! You could try hydrocortizone cream. That stuff helps when I get an allergic reacton to something. I have six cats and a dog and I'm allergic to fur.

i am working my way threw a tube and i have taking a oat meal bath but the hives keep disapearing in one spot and when new ones form thats when the itchyness is the highest

i am just really worried that if i suddenly turned allergic to somthing i normaly eat it will be hard to track down what it is if its not better by monday i need to go to the docs again

at a christmas eve party i ate some potatos that tasted funny to me it had sour cream in it and i never eat sour cream so i am hoping thats it

My mom is allergic to just about every kind of pain medicine.... which is bad because she gets really bad migranes all the time.

it was pretty bad this morning chris wanted to take me to the er but when we called them they suggested urgent care, but my primbary Dr had a canclation so i went in just now, she came up with a better regament of steriods and another med that will help the itching more, other then that i just need to try to find out what is making me itching so much

superjaz - It just hasn't been your month.  Didn't you just get over a cold?  It could be worse though... You could be my friend from Anime Friday.  She got bitten by a Hobo spider, not good.  Then started feeling sick, missed a week of work.  Went, back to the doctor because of stomach pains and found out she had a pancreatic cist the size of her stomach.  Spent two more weeks in the hospital, and is now recuperating with her parents.  She has to leave her apartment, get rid of her cats, and lose her job, because of her health problems.  So, grin and bear it, and be happy you're not her.     Get well soon.

You may try some aloe gel also, I find it helps with itching and rashes.

yeah funny story i tend to break out in blisters from lotion, i have always had skin problems, i have tried anti itch cream but it didnt help, but i have a some new meds from my dr and a new regement to take them 4 prenzone in morn 4 in evenin (tapperd off thru the next 9 days) 2 other pills a day + all thr benidril i can drink

of my cold my cough was the only thing lingering but it was going away,

my family thinks its being caused by stress because last week lots of peeps weren't showing up and since its a 24 hour group home it has to be staffed at all times i was constanly being asked to stay late, and i was really being pressured to work a double on christmas eve, I have never reacted this way to stress before,only to deturgent, but i have family mebers who have
(i am also getting married in 2 weeks no pressure there  )

but as of today i am still splotchy but not nearly as itchy tho my hands feel swollen, and my work wanted me to come in today.. i was like uh no
But I think i am getting a bit better,

Don't forget your vitamins! Hmmm, take some time off in the tanning booth. Go for extra crispy, so that the red of the hives will blend in with the red of the burn! That and you'll get some much needed vitamin D. I heard on NPR or the BBC or somewhere recently that we don't get enough of D, because we hide from the sun too much, don't we SageBell? lol just kidding. sort of.

think i have heard that there are blood tests to see what food your allergic to, but when i mentioned them to my doc she said that there were patch tests (which i have had done before) but when there are literaly 100s of things it could have been.. who knows?
one thing is this is going to keep me pickyer

i tend to not like the taste of things that upset my tummy, like tomatos, i ate a scalloped potato dish i didnt care for to be polite, i didnt like the taste, and thats what had the sour cream (which i never eat anyway)

my family has a secret ranch dip recipe we make during the holidays and the funny thing is it doent use sour cream, it uses emo = artifical sour cream yyay!!

I make a ranch dressing using buttermilk. If it needs to be a bit thicker, I use mayonnaise. garlic, dill weed, buttermilk. simple et pratique!

Glad to hear your hives have gone away Jaz.  Let us all hope it isn't an allergy to your Fiance.    That has been known to happen.    Maybe you should ask him if he has changed his hairspray, deoderant, shampoo, or mousse lately.     Did you get any new clothes for Christmas?  Some materials can cause reactions as well.  If, as you think, it was the sour cream, was there anything in it?  Cloves or garlic maybe?  Could be you are allergic to one of them.     Just some suggestions.

Congrats on your wedding, when do we get to hear the details?  Is it in a church?  Wearing a traditional wedding gown?  Am I invited?  Will there be food?
